Here at Manor Community Primary School Nursery we provide a fun and exciting learning environment. We understand that children learn best when they are engaged and involved and so we plan stimulating activities, incorporating our children’s interests whenever possible. We endeavour to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere, organising our inside and outside environments to reflect this ethos. We offer both 15 (5 x mornings or 5 x afternoons) and 30 hour free childcare.

Local Offer
Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
We work closely with the School SENCo team and with specialist teachers in the local authority. We also work closely with STLS (Specialist Teaching and Learning Service) if we have any concerns about pupils in order to obtain advice to best support that child.
We hold a parent's evening early in the academic year in order to discuss your child's needs and any areas of concern you may have identified at home or we may have identified at nursery.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
We offer an open door policy where each parent can discuss their child with their key person. We also invite parent(s)/Carers to a formal parents' evening twice a year. Parents can also access their child's learning online using a secure webpage - Tapestry.
If your child is on a personalised plan you are invited in to discuss targets and progress at the end of each term.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
If your child is on a personalised plan, they will follow the same curriculum but their learning will be adapted in conjunction with the outcomes on their plan.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
If your child has specific needs a contact book will be provided between the setting and home.
Weekly newsletter informs parents of upcoming learning for the week.
A book initiative was run jointly with the Children's Centre in order to promote the love of reading between the setting and home.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
We would liaise with external agencies and our SENCo. The nursery has adequate changing facilities and children are changed on a 1:2 ratio. We are able to administer medication providing the parent has completed the appropriate paperwork. This covers both long term medication such as asthma inhalers and epipens and short term medication such as hay fever medication and antibiotics.
We have a behaviour bear to promote positive behaviour in the nursery.
We have a reward system to encourage regular attendance.
We have a Family Support Team who work closely with all stakeholders in the school. They are able to signpost parents to outside agencies who may be able to offer assistance or advice. We hold Chill and Chat Sessions when parents and children are invited into school, and on occasions outside speakers are invited.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
We assess the children every term and regularly meet and discuss how we can further develop their skills and knowledge whilst in our care. We will discuss their progress during parents' evenings and throughout the year.
Parents can be regularly updated via Tapestry and vice versa as they can share home learning experiences.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
No children are excluded. A risk assessment would be carried out to cover all pupils.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
DDA Compliant
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
A high percentage of children who attend our nursery will then go on to attend our school. We work closely with the foundation stage team to ensure a smooth transition for both child and parent. We will visit a child's previous setting to gain a better understanding of any specific needs or plans prior to them starting.
If necessary emails can be translated to aid parents. Alternatively we try to use current pupils/staff to assist in communication.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
We hold new entrants meeting, come and stays and home visits prior to your child starting. On finishing nursery all records would be transferred and a comprehensive handover between staff is given.
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Please contact the main school office for an application form. Alternatively you can download the form above or from our website.
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
We welcome feedback at any time from parents and we also hand out parent questionnaires at parents' evening.
Parents are able to speak to staff on the gates should they have any concerns. The complaints procedure is on the school website.
