Local Offer

Description

I offer an inclusive approach to all children in my care.

If I have any vacancies, please feel free to get in touch and we can discuss yours and your child's needs.

Special Needs Support

When a child starts at my setting I ask them to fill in an "All about Me" form - telling me what a child likes/dislikes and a Starting points sheet to tell me what a child is able to do/not do.

I offer a few settling in sessions so the child gets to know me and my setting. Once a child starts here I look at the starting points sheets, observe the child and assess their starting points here in line with the document Birth to 5 matters

I must complete a Statutory Progress Check when a child turns 2 which will help me identify any areas a child may be struggling in or is on target for his/her age range.

If I have a child here who may need extra support I will seek advice and training to help meet their needs. I work closely with other settings to ensure we're all working together to help the child.

I speak to parents on a daily basis and send home a contact book to pass on any information about what has happened during the day.

I send home  assessments to show how each child is progressing and these can be shared with any other setting the child may attend.

I also complete a monthly photo book to show parents what the children have been doing here and these are sent home every few months.
If a child needs any extra support I will discuss with parents and other settings so that we are all doing the same things to help the child.

As I complete assessments and get to know your child, I will plan activities or outings that I believe your child will enjoy and benefit from.

The EYFS is an educational framework which covers all areas of learning and I offer activities to include all of these areas of learning.
Children are supported through any changes at home/school.

I'm happy to support a child with additional needs or learning difficulties.

If needed I can do additional training to support the child in whichever area of disability or education they need.

If any outside agencies are involved I will discuss with them how to best support the child and if an Education Healthcare Plan is in place , I will work within the guidelines.

I am responsible for making sure the children at my setting feel safe and secure - both emotionally and physically. I help with transition to nursery/school.

I have a SEND policy which tells how I will support a child with any additional needs.

I have paediatric first aid training and this is updated regularly.

Any medication is stored appropriately and will only be given once a signed permission form is filled in  or verbal permission is given over the phone and a medication form is filled in and signed by a parent after the event.

My safeguarding and CRB are up to date.

I am able to access professional advice from PACEY, the local authority and other professionals.

I support each child at my setting and their family through observations, regular reviews of the children's development. I complete a 2 year check to see if a child is meeting milestones or if they are falling behind. This can be shared with their Health Visitor.

I use various activities to help the child reach their full potential

I share information with parents - written & verbal. I ask for regular feedback from home about what they've been doing, what they've noticed child doing, what's happening at home.

Any concerns are shared and discussed with parents.

I aim for my setting to be all inclusive.

All outings and activities are risk assessed to ensure they are suitable for all children. I provide support to enable all children to access all activities

I am happy to do any additional training which is specific to a child's individual needs and would work closely with any outside agencies to benefit the child.

I can help to accommodate any additional needs, which would need to be discussed at our first meeting.

There is a step up to my front door which I could place a ramp next to, if required. There is a downstairs toilet but it's quite small  and getting a wheelchair in would be difficult.

I complete a transition report for a child starting at school. We practice getting dressed and other things a child will need to be able to do for going to school - washing hands, using cutlery.

I share assessments with nurseries that the children attend.

I have permission from parents to share information

Children in my care are familiar with the concept of going to school as I have older children we take and collect from school.

I assess the overall effectiveness of the SEN provision at my setting by talking to other childminders and listening to their ideas/opinions and if I have any opportunities to attend outside meetings with other outside agencies I will.

I will book onto any additional training if required. I would speak to parents regularly and check I'm meeting their child's needs

Carolyn Brooks - Childminder by phone or email.

I would arrange a visit for parents and /or child to come along to get a feeling for my setting. I would encourage settling in sessions with the parent for a couple of times and if required any other professionals could come along.
I would do any assessments that needed to be completed I.e. for additional funding such as SEN Inclusion Fund and apply for any funding under the Disability Access Fund (DAF) and put a plan in place on how this could be used.

I have an open working relationship with parents and would welcome any ideas they make have, any concerns, complaints or compliments

I have a complaints procedure that parents are sent when they first sign contracts which has details of what I have to do if a complaint is received and also who parents can speak to and seek advice from.

I sent out a parental questionnaire annually to give parents the chance to give me any feedback on things I do, what they'd like to see at my setting, any changes/ideas they may have.
