Special Needs Support

All children attending my setting are monitored and observed in line with the EYFS. A 2 year old development check is carried out and shared with parents and any concerns regarding development will be discussed. The needs of children new to the setting are identified through discussions with their parents and any other professionals involved with the family. This enables me to identify the starting points in your child’s learning journey. A daily journal is sent home and there is time at the beginning and end of day for the parent to talk to me

Working alone, I provide continuous care to support your child whilst they are away from home. This helps build confidence and positive self-esteem, helping your child to feel secure emotionally and physically. I share each child’s learning journey with their parents, communicate regularly and answer queries. I offer reassurance and inform parents of their child’s progress and ensure that they are provided with all necessary information. On starting with my service each child receives an ‘All About me’ form which focuses on their strengths, areas for development, home life, interests and language which helps identify the types of activities or support that may be needed

The planning for each session is child led so that their learning is built around their own interests, with guidance from me for their next steps. I provide activities for your child to learn within their area of need. I use the EYFS curriculum as a guide for the child’s development.

Your child is a unique person. I allow them to explore and investigate in a rich environment, with support, ensuring safety and extension of experiences as well as offering fertile ground for developing potential. One to one support can be provided. Observations are taken on your child and an assessment is made which will highlight areas of development that may need to be focused on. Planning will be addressed within these areas of learning.

I will be happy to support a child with finding the right help and support for their individual needs and share progress with other agencies involved with the family’s permission.

I would be willing to take on additional training to help support in a specific area of disability or education.

I will liaise with any relevant outside agencies taking their professional advice on how to best support a child.

If an Education healthcare plan is in place I would work within its guidelines.

I am responsible for ensuring that your child is safe and secure both emotionally and physically whilst in my setting and during transition to nursery and/or school. I maintain an inclusive service and my provision is assessed daily for safety. I have appropriate specific paediatric first aid training and am happy to undertake any further training which is specific to a child’s individual needs. Medication will be stored appropriately in a secure place and will only be given with signed written permission or by verbal agreement over the phone in a necessary situation. My safeguarding and CRB are up to date.

I have trained as a teacher and taught in both primary and secondary schools and taught children with SEND. I have worked with professionals in relation to children that I have provided care for, including speech therapists, social workers and nursery/preschool staff. I follow any professional advice given to me that relates to a specific child and all paper work is copied and place in the child’s file. I am also able to access professional advice from my PACEY coordinator, the local authority and other professionals.

I support each child at my setting and their family through observations, regular reviews of development in the Childs trackers and use planned activities to help the child reach their full potential.

Sharing of information with parents and asking for regular feedback from home on progress and ideas of how to help with the next steps. Any concerns are shared and discussed with parents on a regular basis.

I will use the 2 year check to highlight if I feel a child may be falling behind any prime area of learning and/or not meeting milestones. This can be shared with the health visitor if parents wish.

I can access further support from my PACEY coordinator, the local authority or seek advice from other professionals.

I have a wide range of resources and work closely with other childminders sharing resources.

All trips/outings/activities are fully risk assessed and reviewed annually to ensure they are suitable for all children. I provide adequate support to enable all children to access all activities

Training is undertaken regularly to ensure necessary knowledge and to enhance my professional development. I am happy to do additional training which is specific to a child’s individual needs and to work closely with outside agencies to benefit the child.

I have a BA(QTS) teaching qualification and, paediatric first aid certificate, child protection and food hygiene certificates. I have completed courses on Autism awareness, supporting speech, language and communication, expectations of behaviour and raising developmental concerns.

I work from a home that is located in a residential close in Kennington. There is a small step up to the house at the front and rear of the property to which I would be able to add a ramp if required. The rear garden has been levelled and is mainly laid to lawn. The downstairs of the property is used for childminding and there is a downstairs toilet.

I carefully consider the needs of the children when planning indoor and outdoor space ensuring there is enough access any alterations do not limit my provision.

All trips/outings/activities are fully risk assessed and reviewed annually to ensure they are suitable for all children. I provide adequate support to enable all children to access all activities.

I will seek advice from parents and gain information on the child’s specific needs and how best to cater for these.

When a child starts a new early years setting or school I am happy to provide them with any relevant information, alongside a copy of the most up to date progress check. Children in my care are familiar with concept of school as I have older children that I care for that attend.

I support each child at my setting and their family through observations, regular reviews of development in the Childs trackers and use planned activities to help the child reach their full potential.

Sharing of information with parents and asking for regular feedback from home on progress and ideas of how to help with the next steps.

I will use the 2 year check to highlight if I feel a child may be falling behind any prime area of learning and/or not meeting milestones. This can be shared with the health visitor if parents wish.

I request that parents complete a questionnaire annually to provide feedback on the service I provide. This enables me to identify areas that require improvement and what they particularly like.

I like to have an open working relationship with parents and welcome an open dialogue regarding concerns, complaints and compliments.

I have a complaints procedure that parents are provided with which details what I must do if I receive a complaint and who parents can speak to and seek advice from.
