Toni Fawcett

Ofsted registered Childminder. Graded Outstanding in my last two inspections (September 2015 and March 2022).

The Benefits of a Childminder:-

Childminders play an important role in giving parents a greater choice of high quality, flexible childcare and family support service services. The combination of continuity of care, ability to offer a lower child to carer ratio and a superb mix of ‘learning through play’ and ‘learning through every day experiences in a caring homely environment’ makes registered childminders a good option for parent looking for childcare.

* As well as the learning through the structured routine of story time, music time and guided play, children gain a wide variety of learning experiences that come from everyday activities, role play, free play and attending various groups, parks, farms, shops, on a more regular basis rather than other childcare settings can offer.

Childminders can provide:

* Childcare in a warm & friendly, family home environment.

* Offering flexible hours of childcare to work around your requirements, usually also at a lower cost.

* Childcare based around a child’s usual home life to help make them feel secure and settled.

I can offer full or part time hours to suit your family’s individual needs.

* Pre-School Sessions for 3-4 yr olds (government funded) I have excellent feedback from parents and teachers / head teachers on my ‘school readiness’ for my pre-school children.

* FF2 - funded places for eligible 2 year olds.

* Term time only contracts are available - especially good for teachers & other parents who have the school holidays off, or parent who have grandparents or other help available during school holidays. (The fees are only charged for the term times, hence saving you over 8 weeks fees per year!)

* I accept most childcare voucher scheme payments, inc the government tax free scheme.

Welcome – Me & My Family:
Welcome to Rainbows Childcare Iwade. My name is Toni Fawcett, I am an accredited Childminder (able to offer the government funded pre-school childcare places), registered and inspected by OFSTED and a member of PACEY (Professional Association for Childcare & Early Years), ICO & Childcare.co.uk.
I moved to Sittingbourne from Canterbury 16 years ago and trained as a Childminder shortly after. I’m now in my 15th year and still love caring for all the little people that come through my setting, in fact more now than ever!. My family and I moved to Iwade in June 2018, my younger children, are now aged 16 & 14. My two older children, 24 & 28 have ‘flown the nest’ and now have jobs and places of their own.

Description

I have several years experience in providing early years care to children with additional needs, including adhd and autism. I have listed below examples of how all children are included in my setting and how their needs will be assessed and met on an individual basis, after liaising with parents and any other childcare and/or health professionals. My setting can currently allow wheelchair access, although the entrance is a little uneven- this is booked in to be altered October 2023 and will then provide even easier wheelchair access and access for those with limited mobility.

Special Needs Support

We follow the EYFS and help the children to learn through their play and everyday activities. We follow closely, childrens behaviour and learning and can identify if our little ones require any additional help or resources to thrive and develop. We liaise with parents regularly and will raise any questions we have with them. We will work with parents to jointly work on any areas of development that we feel are needed and will advise parents to seek additional guidance from their health visitors / doctors or other early years professionals if required.

We communicate regularly with parents on drop off and collection and we also use a whattsapp chatt (between parents and both myself and my assistant) where we send photos of the children's daily play and learning and also information about their day. We will use this chat to provide any updates on their learning and behaviour and also provide support and advice on activities and ideas that parents can use at home to support the children's learning and developmental areas. We will provide any additional resources we feel needed to help the children and we closely monitor and keep track of their progress.

We provide an 'all about me' booklet to parents before their child starts, to gather information on each individual, we will then get to know our children during settling in sessions and during their first few weeks with us, we then ensure that we can set up activities and provide resources that will meet with each individual child's interest and engage their intrigue and curiosity to promote their learning and growth.

We run a small homebased setting and therefore both myself and my assistant will work closely with every child in our setting, when planning our activities we do so with each individual child in mind and therefore adapt all activities to suit each child's age / stage / any additional needs, we communicate learning and play through regular whattsapp chats and photos with the parents and we keep a folder for each individual child to keep evidence of their learning and progress, this folder then gets sent to their primary school in the weeks before they transition to year R.

As mentioned previously, we will seek advice and resources from other areas for any child that requires it, regardless of SEND, all children should have their interests and needs meet, regardless of their age or stage of development or however many or few additional needs they may have. We have children with autism in our setting, who still return to us during holiday club, as they feel safe, secure & understood within our setting because we learnt their needs as babies and pre-schoolers and we adapted our curriculum and learning opportunities as well as behavioural guidance, to suit their individual needs.

We follow the EYFS and we keep evidence of the children's learning on their folders which are then sent onto primary school for their new teachers information, before being sent home to you. During their time here we also send home daily diary information and photos on our what's app chats and will discuss with parents at drop off and pick up times if there are any areas of concern or even just regular updates on what we are currently working on. Parents are encouraged to also discuss with us any concerns they may have and are also encouraged to use our whattsapp chats to update us with children's development and activities at home.

Any activities and trips are planned around the children in our setting, their needs & interests. We will seek any additional resources we may need to ensure all children can participate in everything we do.

We use the side gate to access the setting and wheelchair access can be obtained this way. We visit local parks, wildlife walks, shops, library and toddler groups within Iwade and all of these are accessible for wheelchair users and any mobility difficulties

As mentioned above, we keep track of the children's learning in folders that will be sent on to their primary school. We follow the path to school readiness chart, which is also in their folders so their parents can follow it too. We check with local primary schools to ensure that we are helping the children become ready for school in all areas, this is not just in their educational learning but also ensuring they are as emotionally ready and prepared as they can be, by promoting self care and hygiene. Learning to spend time focusing on one thing at a time, participating in story time and music time, encouraging play with others to take turns. We focus on emotions and encourage talking about feelings / worries / experiences

Open lines of communication between all involved with the children allow us to ensure every child's needs are being met, we also seek reviews from parents and send questionnaires about parents thoughts on the setting and any areas for improvement and/or excellence

Toni Fawcett via email, text message, whattsapp msg

We have a policy for complaints procedure which all parents are given on joining, this clearly sets out all options for submitting any complaints. If any were ever made a record of these would be kept on file.

we regularly ask parents for feedback using reviews / questionnaires and we keep a folder for prospective parents to read these
