Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
Each child will be allocated a key person who will monitor their progress and development, if they have any believe there may be a SEND they will discuss this with the settings senco (special educational needs coordinator) and they will arrange a meeting with the parents to gather their views and plan how we can support the child together
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
Parents will be able to have regular conversations with their child's key person and the setting senco to work together to formulate either a targeted or a personalised plan depending on their level of need
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
We will differentiate activities to enable all children to take part and will use the Portage SEND best practice checklist with children we feel it would be more beneficial to use with
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Activities are differentiated to enable everyone to take part and are planned around the childrens current interests and fascinations which helps to encourage them to take part. We have visuals, makaton and now/next boards in use within the setting so that children can develop a communication style that works for them.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
Children identified with SEND will receive support in ways to suit their needs, this may be through 1-1 work, interventions, planned play activities to work on specific areas, physio sessions etc
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
The key person and senco will monitor their progress through the day to day activities and any interventions they are doing to ensure they are making progress to the best of their abilities. we review their progress regularly to see if any targets of long term goals have been achieved or need adjusting to make them work better
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
We work with all children to develop their social skills and accept and celebrate the differences in each other
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
The building is all on one level with ramp outside leading to the playground, We have wheelchair accessible doors on all the rooms and have a deaf loop installed
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
We will work with the families to ensure they find a school or setting they are happy with and will arrange a meeting with the new setting to transfer any documentation. Staff from the new setting will be invited to come and meet the child at Noah's Ark and provide us with photos etc so we can work with the child to ensure a smooth transition for them.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
We complete regular audits on our practise and use them to make adjustments where needed and to arrange training for staff.
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Emma - Nursery manager & senco
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
we have an online system parents can use or they can email us
