Canterbury Archaeological Trust

The Canterbury Archaeological Trust was formed in 1975 to undertake excavations, research, publication and the presentation of the results of its work to the public.

We employ a team of highly qualified and experienced field archaeologists and specialists. Funded almost entirely through our commercial activities, research, education and publication are still very much at the heart of what we do.

Key Trust activities

We undertake archaeological fieldwork across SE England and desk-based research
We record standing buildings of historic and archaeological interest
We provide planning consultation and advice
We are the Investigating Authority for the Canterbury Area of Archaeological Importance
We publish reports of our work, both popular and academic
We manage the Archaeology in Education Service (AES) for Kent schools and colleges

Annual Membership: Only £20 a year (minimum). If you pay tax
you can complete a Gift Aid Declaration
enabling us to reclaim tax at no expense to you.

Full-time students (secondary school
undergraduate and postgraduate)
and UB40 holders are entitled to half-price annual subscription.

Canterbury Archaeological Trust is committed to encouraging enthusiasts and providing opportunities for people to get involved. Wherever possible we welcome volunteers to help both on excavations and in the finds shed and we have an active Friends organisation.

Our third series of archaeology courses starts in September. Book early to avoid disappointment!
