Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
When a child first starts in my setting, I will talk with you about their likes/dislikes and how they are both at home and in other environments. Depending on their age, I have to complete a Progress Check at 2. This is a statutory requirement and is to help see where your child is with regards to their development and to ensure that their individual needs are being met. This is a good time to discuss any possible delays in development and what steps we can take for any extra help and support that may be needed.
I have completed various training to help me identify any possible needs and concerns of children whilst in my care and can seek further help and advice if needed to best support your child with their progress.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
I will speak with you about how I can help to support your child. I will discuss any issues or concerns you or I have together, then put in place a plan for those areas.
We can speak in person and via whatsapp or text.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
I can adapt activities to suit each childs individual needs depending on their age and ability.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
I provide a range of activities. Sometimes they are planned and other times they are child led. This helps to ensure that your child can gain as much learning as possible through planned and unplanned activities as well as learning through normal routines of being in a home environment.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
I will discuss any concerns with you and then seek advice from outside professionals/agencies.
I have done various training and can look into further training and resources if needed.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
I will regularly speak with you in person and via phone/whatsapp. We can work together to monitor what progress is being made with your child.
I also do a 2year old check.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
When going on trips I will ensure that they are suitable for all abilities by risk assessing. I will speak with you about any extra help that may be needed for your child whilst out.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
There is usually parking outside my house. I only have an upstairs bathroom. I have a couple of steps in the back garden, but I could put a ramp to assist if a wheelchair is needed.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
I will support your childs transition to a new setting/school, by reading relevant books and stories, (for example 'Starting school') I will also include this within playtimes and activities such as role play etc.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
I will regularly speak with you about your child and their needs and progress
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
If you are considering a place at my setting, please contact me to discuss further.
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
I am happy to talk with you about any feed back you may have. This can be done face to face or by phone, text or whatsapp. I have a complaints procedure. I also have various references
