Pauline Silk


A tiney home with a goal of creating  happy, engaging environment with high quality childcare for children aged 0 upwards, including stories and singing, arts and crafts, sensory and messy play, construction and roleplay. We are a mum/daughter team, happy to provide for shift working hours.

We regularly visit local parks, including Leeds Castle, toddler groups and libraries which gives the children great learning opportunities and builds on thier social and emotional development.

I've set up our tiney home to be welcoming to all families. We live in a village on the outskirts of the beautiful Leeds Castle. We have 2 small dogs, Alfie and Tigger.

I have many years experience with children, from being a mum myself for 27 years, previously a childminder and most recently working in a small village nurture school, hence being experienced with EYFS, safeguarding and fully comprehensive training through Tiney, including a full paediatric first aid course.

Working alongside my daughter, together we aim to help your children flourish.

We are happy to be flexible with our hours to help cover your shifts.

We live in Langley, Maidstone, a picturesque village in Kent near the beautiful Leeds Castle, the children will benefit from lots of outdoor adventures in our local woods and parks.

There is a regular bus service, stopping on the Sutton Road, just a short walk. Nearest train stations are Hollingbourne and Headcorn.

Special Needs Support

All children are regularly observed and assessed following the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The childminder and assistant work closely with parents to understand the needs of their children and listens to any concerns they may have.

With regular discussions in person, via the tiney app and with photos.

Being a small setting and working alongside my daughter I have time to concentrate on an individual child's needs and can set specific activities to suit the individual children

We will always take time to talk with parents about any observations noticed, face to face and via our tiney app.

We will take time to get to know each child in our setting as an individual and plan around their favourite interests and activities.

We follow the EYFS and guidelines available.

Both myself and my daughter will observe the children in our care, we have daily contact with parents and will add photos and notes in the tiney app to update during the day, as well as conversations on pick up.

We will know the childrens need as we are a very small setting, activities will be planned around every child and risk assessments taken for trips out.

I take reasonable steps to ensure that childcare is inclusive and provisions are accessible to the needs of all children and will make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the needs of children and their families.   

Unfortunately the building is not fully wheelchair accessible due to the number of steps and narrow doorways. A downstairs wc is available for children’s use.

Initial meetings allow families to visit and decide whether our setting is right for them. Families will then be offered a home visit before settling-in visits start. Children can then have free settling-in visits where parents can stay for a little while before leaving their child. These will be arranged with each family as we are all individual. 

Within the app we have a childs passport where parents have the opportunity to share as much information as possible about their child prior to their child starting in the setting.   Parents are given a copy of the settings policies and procedures to read, discuss and agree to at contract signing,these can also be emailed. For children moving onto a new early years setting or school, the professionals from these settings are welcome contact the childminder to discuss the child, or to visit them in the setting or I am willing to visit other settings. 

Parents will be continually consulted with children's progress and development. The tiney app is used for two-way communication and is the best way to share information.

Parents are encouraged to contribute to the progress and development with comments, observations and photographs. We hold regular meetings to discuss children's needs, requirements and development. Setting policies and procedures are regularly reviewed.

Please come and speak to me directly in this case so I can identify the cause of the complaint and work together to find a solution. Face to face communication is far better in these instances to avoid misunderstandings. I will always make every effort to accommodate these conversations at a suitable time for you, ideally when there are no children present.  If you prefer not to discuss the issues with me in person then please use any other form of communication (text, in-app message, email, letter) to let me know about your concerns.

  In some instances, it may be more appropriate for tiney to investigate the complaint, in which case I will pass all details to them to investigate. In either case, you will receive written notification of the outcome of the complaint within 28 days.

I keep a complaints log which will be shared with tiney as my registering body.  All data relating to complaints is strictly confidential.
