How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
Before a child starts in our care, I like to do a home visit to meet with families. I can be informed of any needs and areas which may require extra support. Parents are given a welcome pack with all our information in and documents that need completing, which includes an all about me form which details the support, needs and routines of the child. I follow the EYFS to make an initial base line assessment on their learning journey during their first 6 weeks and continue to monitor and evidence their learning in their own personal learning journey. I complete the Two year Check at age two to take along to your Health Visitor review. Any development concerns and next steps that are identified I can use to write up a targeted plan to help the child reach these goals. I am able to work with others agencies and professionals to meet your childs needs. In my role as SENCO I keep up to date with relevant training, work in partnership with yourself and others involved in your child's care. I can also seek advice from my Quality Improvement Officer and make relevant referrals to specialist teaching services.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
As the key person responsible for your child, I will keep their learning journal up to date with photos and post it note observations. We have regular informal chats on collection and drop offs, via our group individual Whatapp chats, the closed private Facebook page and personal meetings 4 times a year when I compile their termly summary to go through with you. I have an open door policy and welcome discussions and happy to schedule a meeting to discuss any concerns or other at any point to work together to help your child.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
I follow the EYFS to plan for the childrens individual learning which is recorded in their individual learning journals using observations, photos, assessments and planning in the 3 prim areas and 4 specific areas. I adapt the frame work to meet a child's individual needs and I have links to gain advice and support from health professionals, local specialist provisions and because we work on a smaller ratio than nurseries we can use more targeted activities to help promote a childs well being. I can work with speech and language teams and am hoping to complete the Ican early talk programme in the future. We can tailor our setting to individual needs of each child due to our smaller ratio. This also helps us be more flexible and easily adapt to individual needs of any child. I have a large outdoor area and can cater for any dietary requirements / allergies due to personal experience.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Being a childminder puts me in a good position to provide tailored activities for your child to ensure they gain the best learning from everyday activities including helping with chores, looking out for younger children, shopping, self care and planned fun activities designed to meet their individual needs and likes. As SENCo for the setting, i work with parents and relevant agencies to ensure I have any necessary equipment need. I can claim funding if applicable to purchase any specialist equipment and resources or training to support my care off your child. I am currently completing the level 4 qualification which covers SENCo and PANCo roles.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
I like to build strong relationships with all the parents, we work together to help the child develop and learn bu sharing our knowledge between us. I have been involved in appointments for therapist, done training with parents and medical staff to meet a childs specific needs. I keep my first aid up to date. I complete a progress check at age 2 and end of reception year if the child is still with me.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
I make constant assessments of children in my setting to ensure all the children are included in all the activities i plan. I risk assess and use good planning strategies. I am committed to be fully inclusive of all children of all ages and abilities and that any activities, outings or play are planned, adapted and suitable for your childs needs.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
All the necessary rooms in my home are easily accessible. I would need to install a wooden ramp for the entrance to my front door but that is easily done. On street parking close to the entrance is available. Again a little ramp added to exit the lounge would be easily made if needed. Large outdoor garden. Downstairs toilet and bathroom and sunken trampoline.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
We like to visit new settings, where possible and we invite staff from other settings to come and see the child in our setting too. We write transition reports and letters for the new staff to get to know the child and share experiences and strategies we use. We also send a copy of the most recent termly summary. We use stories, books role play and dress up activities and visual aids to support with discussion about the up coming transition.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
Regular contact with parents and meeting, send out surveys and questionnaires about our setting, their involvement and any improvements we could make. My policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and i discuss and asses my practice with another childminder to see how improvements could be made.

What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
We have an open door policy and hope you would feel free to discuss any concerns you may have. I am open to new ideas and suggestions and even critiques as this will help me to provide a good setting. The complaints procedure is given out in the welcome pack to all parents when they join our setting. I have been lucky enough to not have any complaints made against me or my setting but rather many compliments from parents thanking us for the support.
