Kerry Annette Irvine

I am a registered childminder with Ofsted (since 2001), I hold a level 3 diploma in childcare and I am able to offer a friendly and welcoming childminding service in a family environment.

I live with my husband John and our three grown up children (my whole household is DBS checked).

We have one family pet which is a dog called Teddy who is a very friendly Cockapoo.

We are a non-smoking household and do not allow smoking / Vaping anywhere in the house.

I can offer all daily meals (for a small charge) and healthy snacks throughout the day.

I can accept childcare vouchers as well as 2, 3&4 year old government funding for both 15 & 30 hours.

Description

My setting is inclusive and aims to support children and young people with SEND, I offer support to achieve their best possible outcomes by working with families and outside services.

Special Needs Support

When first starting at my setting I will ask you to complete an ‘all about me’ form, this will help me to get to know your child and identify their areas of strengths or areas they may need extra support, I will use a document called Development matters to help me assess their starting points then will use this document along with a tracker book to monitor their progress.

When your child reaches the age of two I will complete a ‘2 year old progress check’ (this is usually completed between 24 and 36 months to coincided with the progress check with their health visitor), This May identify a specific area of development where a targeted plan may needed to help develop that area, this plan will be shared with you so we can work together.

I will speak to you regularly at collection time to update you with their progress, if there is any causes of concern I will ask you to arrange a convenient time to come in and have a more detailed conversation.

The EYFS is an education framework that focuses on the three prime areas and four specific areas of child development, it allows me to plan for your “unique child” through observations and assessments while using your child's interests to support and develop their learning.

I am able to tailor activities to suit the individual needs of each child, I feel I am in a good position to ensure that children with additional needs get the support they need while engaging in activities alongside children who do not have additional needs. I also use a variety of resources to help support children with additional needs.

If your child does not seem to be making sufficient progress following the use of a targeted plan I will discuss with you the need to refer your child to an outside agency such as speech and language therapy, If your child receives support from outside agencies then the targeted plan would be changed to a personalised plan.

Your written consent is required in order for a referral to be made to the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service, through the Local Inclusion Team Forum (LIFT) meeting. I will attend any training necessary to further support your child.

progress will be monitored using individual tracker books and guidance from the EYFS framework. I will keep you informed using WhatsApp and regular verbal communication.

I aim for my setting to be inclusive and can make reasonable adjustments to my setting environment to ensure all children are included in all activities. All outings and activities are risk assessed to ensure they are suitable for all children.

Unfortunately I do not have access for wheelchair users as there are steps at the front and rear of my house.

When your child is approaching the time to start school I will complete a starting school assessment this enables me to make sure they have learnt the basic skills to transition into the school environment.

When children move on to a new setting, with parent's permission I will work with their new setting and exchange information they will need.

my effectiveness is assessed by having regular conversations with parents and giving out parental questionnaires for you to complete to help me assess the quality of my setting, this also help me when reviewing and updating my policies and procedures.

please contact myself via telephone or email and I will answer any questions you may have, we can then arrange for you to visit me in my setting where we can discuss your requirements and any additional needs if required, I can also give advice / information on how to access additional funding such as the SEN inclusion fund (SENIF) and the disability access fund (DAF).

I always welcome constructive feedback and will use this to improve my service, I will give out parental questionnaires and encourage you to be honest in your response, you are also free to approach me at any time with feedback. You will be given a copy of my complaint’s policy and procedure.
