Our aim is to support residents to improve their health in whatever way suits them best. We believe that a person’s health is impacted by both their own behaviour and the community they live in. We support communities to develop social networks, run community safety initiatives, develop committees which give young people a voice and run projects which provide opportunities for older residents to learn alongside younger residents.
All of the programmes we run have either been directly requested by residents or have been developed because there is an identified need; these needs would have been highlighted in documents such as the Health Profiles, produced by the Association of Public Health Observatories.
We work with all age groups from the healthy weight courses which helps participants lead a healthier lifestyle and lose weight, to the Silver Surfers club that teaches older residents how to use the internet and set up an email account. We also have a youth team in the building, offering friendly advice and support to the young people.
The GR@ND is funded through a variety of partners including Kent County Council and Gravesham Borough Council. This means that we are able to offer the majority of services for FREE and the remaining services at an affordable rate.
