Special Needs Support

Before your child starts with us you are invited to come and have look around and you are asked to fill in an all about me form which provides us with the chance to learn all about your child and thier needs and interests. This gives you the opportunity to share details of areas of strength and any extra support that may be needed. Your child will be offered a couple of settling in sessions and will be able to spend time with their keyperson. We will work with your child during the settling process to make it as smooth as possible. During the first few weeks we will assess your child's starting points and share this information with you to use as a guide in planning next steps. We have two SENDCO staff (Lisa Wilkins & Laura Taylor) who are trained and experienced in Special Educational Needs and disabilities and will support you with the progress and development of your child. You may request a meeting or an informal discussion if you have any concerns.

All children are allocated a keyperson who will form a strong and positive relationship with your child and you. The keyperson approach is central to our practice in ensuring that you are informed about your child's progress and wellbeing on a regular basis. We use Tapestry online journals to inform you of what your child has been doing at pre school and you may also share information with us at handover times. We are happy to arrange meetings at mutually convenient times. We support children with additional needs using targeted and personalised plans which we will share with you in order to meet next steps.

We cater for each child's age and stage of development, giving a wide range of activities and experiences tailored to individual needs and interests. we work with other agencies such as specialist teachers and equality and inclusion support to ensure we are supporting each child as best we can to reach their potential. We work within the EYFS framework to observe, assess and plan for each child in each area of the curriculum.

We use enabling environments to ensure that we offer the best chance for children to succeed and achieve next steps. We refer to Best Practice Guidance to review our setting and plan for each child's needs. We review our resources and learning areas regularly and ensure there are calm and quiet areas when needed. We use a wide range of sensory resources and activities to support all children. we are able to claim extra funding to support children when appropriate. All staff are trained in in Early Years practice and are experienced in planning next steps for keychildren. We are able to signpost parents to extra outside support such as workshops and websites.

Staff regularly review childten's progress and we use a graduated approach to support and identify additional needs. Where necessary we will draw up a targeted plan to share with you and support progress. Once children are accessing support from any outside agencies we will write up a personalised plan. We are able to refer children to speech and language therapy, physio therapy, community paediatrics and others where needed. We work with specialist teachers and Senif practitioners who are able to come and observe children in the setting and offer strategies to support them. We may access Disability access funding, SENIF funding and an Early Years Pupil Premium. We use a range of visual support strategies where needed such as communication boards. We may utilise a Health Care Plan to support medical needs.

Your child's Keyperson will be your first point of contact for discussing progress and concerns. They will observe and monitor your child and liaise with you regularly. More targeted support may be needed from the settings SENCO. We will update you also via Tapestry. You will be invited to meetings regarding your Child's plans and next steps. We offer an open door policy if you wish to come it at any time to discuss your child's progress.

We are an inclusive setting and we will strive to include children in all experiences and activities. We may at times adapt planned activities to ensure they are safe and appropriate for the child's needs and abilities. Risk assessments are carried out where necessary and full consent required from parents prior to additional activities.

The setting has a ramp suitable for wheelchair users. We have handrails in the bathroom and child sized toilets and sinks. Where possible we can make adjustments to meet children's and parents needs.

All documentation is shared with receiving settings and a thorough handover is completed. teachers often come in to meet children before they start school

We undertake thorough reviews of our setting to ensure we are offering an inclusive environment. We have detailed policies outlining our SEN procedures.
