At Whitfield Wise Owls we are able to cater for a range of additional needs. The staff team all have vast experience in supporting children with various special educational needs and disabilities including those with ASD, Global developmental delay, Speech and language delay, Hearing/Visual impairment and Sensory Processing Disorders.
The Pre-school Manager is also a trained Portage practitioner; Portage is a home visiting service who work closely with parents and families of children with significant developmental delay implementing a targeted small step approach to learning and development supporting interaction and progress in a fun and meaningful way. Together the pre-school Manager and Senco (Special Needs Co-ordinator) use the Portage based Principles to deliver effective strategies and approaches for children.
We believe that good communication and developing positive relationships with parents is crucial in Early Years education and even more so when supporting children with additional needs. We are confident in accessing the appropriate support from other agencies through the Local Inclusion Forum Team as necessary and this along with any targeted or personalised plans will always be discussed and agreed with parents.
Most importantly the setting, environment and ethos is inclusive for all and celebrating individual skills and ongoing achievements is something we continually do!
