Chalk Village PreSchool

Our aim at Chalk Village Pre-School is to enhance the development and education of children aged 2 - 5 years in a parent involving community based group. We provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment. The group works within the EYFS framework which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and families.

The accommodation is within Chalk Parish hall. We have access to two parts of the hall, a kitchen area and seperate toilets. The group has use of an outdoor garden which is safely fenced in.

Most of the children attending the pre-school transfer to the local schools, e.g.Riverview, Shorne, Higham and Westcourt.

Before you child starts with us you are able to vist us to complete the registration form and receive a welcome information leaflet. After you have registered you will be invited to a stay and play session with your child to meet your key person and fill in an 'all about me' questionnaire for your child. Your key person will explain how they will observe and assess your child in all areas of development as specified in the early years foundation stage ( EYFS).

Our pre-school offers an open door policy meaning that as a parent / carer you are welcome to see a member of staff at a convenient time to discuss your childs development. You will also receive regular 'My Unique Story' progress reports from your key person which allows you to input your own views and views of your child. For children with additional needs or special educational needs (SEND) your child will have a targeted or personalised plan. Parent involvement is extremely important and together we can help your child to progress to their full potential.

We plan group activities for all children to participate in. Your child's key person will also have an individual learning plan for your child, planned to their individual needs. We will also make reasonable adjustments to our planning and the environment to accommodate your childs needs.

We allow all children to explore their environment as we feel all children learn best when they are comfortable in their surroundings. All children have individual learning plans. We use a visual time line to help support verbal / non verbal communication. We work with outside agencies where needed to help support our SENCO and key person will specific recommendations. We use targeted and personalised plans for children with additional needs or SEND. We insure that any recommendations from any specialist teacher are discussed and monitored.

Your child's key person will work with the settings SENCO to support your child and regularly monitor your childs progress. Information about support groups and childrens centres are displayed on our notice boards.

Your childs keyperson will complete regular observations on your child during their sessions to monitor their progress. These are recorded in their observation record book. The keyperson will also complete regular progress trackers and unique stories to ensure they are progressing well.

All our planned activities can be extended or simplified to meet the needs of individual children. The staff have daily meetings to discuss the childrens progress and regular full staff meetings to ensure we are meeting the needs of all our children. Our pre-school has daily full risk assessments of indoor areas, outdoor areas and outings, these are inspected, reviewed and monitored accordingly.

The building is all on one level. It has a ramp at the front to allow access from street level, and a ramp at the back to allow access into the garden. The small parking area directly outside the main entrance has an allocated blue badge parking space. The building has a disabled toilet which incorporates a changing facility. The designated preschool area floor covering is wooden and lino. The outdoor area is slabbed, tarmac and grassed.

Your childs new teacher/setting will be invited to meet and observe your child at our setting. Meetings involving teachers , SENCO's and other professionals will be arranged to discuss your child's needs. We have transition roll play, planned activities and circle times prior to children moving on to primary school. We offer parents a consultation meeting to discuss any worries or concerns you may have in preparation for transition to primary school. Your child's progress tracker will be forwarded to their new school with your prior consent.

Our SENCO regularly attends SENCO forum meetings and LIFT meeting (Local inclusion forum team) to access new information regarding SEND and share good practice. All our staff have the opportunities to attend courses to extend their knowledge.
