Cobtree Playschool for Special Children, is supported by Maidstone Mencap Charitable trust Ltd, in providing the highest quality of care and education for all our children, ensuring they are happy, safe and secure within our environment.


We are a registered provider of Nursery education,  able to offer a service that can meet the needs of parents and carers with children between the ages of 2 and 5, who have learning difficulties and or disabilities. 


Cobtree playschool has the facilities enabling the provision and support of specialist equipment, teaching and resources to encourage the children in their individual interests, learning and development. We effectively provide a stimulating and supporting environment for all, with a dedicated team of staff and volunteer 1;1 carers.


Our children thrive knowing they have the constant care support and encouragement of our helpers as well as the 1;1 guidance to support their personlised plans and therapy support network.

Maidstone Mencap Charitable Trust also provide clubs to support Juniors on a saturday morning 10 -12 during term time for children 4.5 to 16+, youth clubs for young adults 16+ and a holiday club during the summer, supporting families within our community with children with learning diffculties and or addtional needs or disabilities.

Description

Maidstone Mencap is supported with funding from the Disabled Commissioning Services, to provide care support and social experiences through our clubs, for children and young people from pre-school to 18+.

We run a junior gateway on Saturday mornings during term time, a youth club on two evening a month throughout the year and a holiday club during the summer

Special Needs Support

How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND? 

Children on our registers will have a diagnosis or Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) of need, be known to Portage or our Local NHS support team, including speech and language physiotherapy and occupational therapy. They may be claiming Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

We will work with other settings, specialist teaching, portage and therapy teams to support all families and share information to ensure children receive targeted support and personalised planning to meet their individual needs.

How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported? 

Personalised target planning with outcomes to support the individual needs, supported by the child's key person and management team. plans and next steps towards these goals are reviewed regularly and parent contributions towards this planning is valued and included.

We give time for all parents to share information before and after every session. we complete daily communication books and invite parents to contribute and share personalised planning in consultations. we attend and contribute to any Team around the Child (TAC) reviews and regularly have therapy support teams in for visits and observations to share strategies with us.

Families are supported in applications and contributions towards an EHCP.

How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs? 

We use the EYFS as a guideline to ensure we are supporting early learning outcome. we break down goals to meet individual abilities and needs to personalise the planning supporting and celebrating the small steps and achievements towards these goals.

Unique progress is recorded with photographs to show the children's achievements and observations and assessments are used to support EHCP and support needed as we reflect on our working practices, resources and enabling environments. 

What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties? 

We use many different approached to support all children... we use signing, picture exchange visual cues and objects of reference as an example to support communication.

  • Key groups are kept small to support personal and social development and interactions
  • We have a physiotherapy as part of our daily routine and experience for all children
  • We are trained to support seizures and PEG feeding
  • We offer sensory and heuristic experiences throughout the children’s sessions with us
  • We plan for 1;1 key adult time to support learning development with a variety of teaching methods. e.g. TEACCH

What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND? 

We with signed consent administer prescribed medication to support care plans.

Staff are trained in administering emergency medication for seizures and allergies.

Families will be supported with individual behaviour planning as appropriate to ensure inclusion and consistency of approach by all supporting the children. plans are reviewed regularly and updated as they evolve with the support from their key worker and manager

How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users? 

  • We have full access with ramps to the main building and garden and a lift to access our upstairs environment.
  • We have mobility chairs and specialist seating to support children
  • We have a sensory room
  • All children can access all areas within our learning environment

What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints? 

We have a concern and complaint policy and procedure available for all parents/ children and staff
