Avenue Nursery & Forest School Limited

Avenue Nursery & Forest School are well established in our community (1974). Our highly trained staff are dedicated people who care and value all families. Our key person approach helps the children to form supportive caring relationships, which enables them to confidently explore and grow in their new environment.

We have a Good Ofsted rating. Our curriculum emerges from the child’s fascinations and is linked to the EYFS framework, ensuring a child centred approach to learning and development.  We include many extracurricular experiences including regular small group outings, annual group excursions, events and celebrations involving all the family throughout the year.

Vision Statement.

Our vision for all children attending Avenue Nursery and Forest School is that they feel happy, secure and valued, whilst developing a love of learning.

We will provide a safe, caring environment, where each child can explore and develop in their own unique way in all areas of learning.

We aim to do this through supportive caring adults, a stimulating environment and interesting motivational experiences. Valuing nature and outdoors as an inspirational educator. Where the children truly engage with all their senses, sparking curiosity and awe.

We also feel that Parent Partnership is vital to offer the best start for any child and we will work closely with parents and carers to support and care for their child.

Other facilities information
Natural and loose parts resource Nursery and Toddler room. Forest School and cabin. Mini-bus. Large outdoor play area with Cabin. Community links; including but not exclusive, weekly visits to the library and local residential homes to promote inter-generational play. The beach, local parks, shops and cafes. Any communal place that links to our emergent curriculum. Our setting has undergone a number of significant changes to practice and provision, after witnessing the impact of the Forest School on our children's learning and development, we have tried to implement as much of the forest school approach as possible within the setting. Instigating further research and training which has led to the following changes. No toys. This has led to fewer episodes of conflict around sharing, but more importantly using natural and loose parts has led to far higher levels of 'meaningful play', where children need to create their own resources, using critical thinking skills. The children now interact and collaborate much more, facing challenges and taking risks that promote the development of self-regulation and resilience, while showing high levels of emotional well-being. Rolling snack and dinner time. Both changes have been made for the children to be able to develop self-regulation and recognise when they are hungry and chose when to eat. But also to allow the least amount of disruption to the child's play. Behaviour policy. We have changed our behaviour policy to self-regulation and resilience policy, where we promote strategies to help the child to self-regulate emotions and deal with conflict and solve problems from a nurturing viewpoint.
