Special Needs Support

On admission, parents are asked to complete a page on our online journal "All about me" which gives us a chance to get to know your child and their strengths or areas where they may need extra support. The completion of the Progress Checker at age 2 may be a time where any delay in development can be discussed and appropriate next steps identified. Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) ensures that families have the best support and resources to help with the development of your child.

The Key Person approach is very important within our setting. Your childs key person will be involved right from the start so that a positive relationship can be built between the family and the setting. The online journal ( Tapestry) provides communication between the family and the setting to ensure we are all working with your childs best interests at heart.

We plan for the needs of each individual child to ensure that they progress and develop at their own personal pace. We have strong links with outside agencies for advice and support eg Beams, Hextable. We also have regular visits from Specialist Teachers and ensure that staff regularly attend training courses.

Teaching strategies are adapted according to a childs individual needs. Where children are receiving support from outside agencies, it may be possible to claim additional funding to buy extra resources or provide staff training.

In the past, children have attended with a condition that we have been unfamiliar with. Our SENCO has researched information and shared with staff and health professionals have given advice and support where necessary.

The setting writes a report on Tapestry on each child 3 times a year and this monitors the childs progress. A meeting with the key person can always be requested at any time.

Each trip has to be risk assessed in advance and we would ensure that each place was accessible to and suitable for ALL children.

We have wheelchair access to all areas for all children.

We attend a Transition meeting with all local schools where we pass over (with parental consent) information on a childs level of development. We also take the children to the local school to listen to "storytime". If attending a different Preschool, we will pass over similar information (once again with parental consent)

We send out an annual questionnaire to parents for their views/comments on the setting in general. The SENCO attends LIFT meetings and SENCO forum meetings.

Please feel free to telephone or email the setting using the above contact details.

We have a comments box in the foyer which can be used for both positive and negative feedback.
