Amanda Jane Miller

My setting is a relaxed and happy environment, very much a home from home for the children in my care.   I offer a wide range of activities  including yoga, beach days, lots of socialisation with other childminders and their children.  I have a small garden with a sandpit, slide, playhouse climbing frame and three rabbits.  We do crafts, singing, signing, stories and offer a mix of structured play and freeplay.

I have a beach hut on Stone Bay, in Broadstairs which we use throughout the spring and summer.

Description

I am qualified in Makaton.

I am qualified to practise yoga with children with additional needs.

I am currently awaiting a start date to gain my level 3 SENCo

Special Needs Support

I have completed training in helping to identify children who may need extra support and my experience enables me to work closely with other settings to ensure that your childs needs are met.

On admission I ask about your childs interests at home and use this for planning.  When your child first start I assess their starting points in line with a document called Development Matters.

The completion of the Progress Check at 2 is a statutory assessment and this may be a time when any delay in development can be discussed and appropriate next steps be identified.

I offer

  • daily informal contact
  • daily whats app communication, which includes photos of your child and may include others in the setting interacting/participating in activities
  • quarterly reports which cover in depth each area of learning
  • group what app where posting of activities which may be of help or interest to all in the setting
  • telephone, email and face to face meetings should this be required

I use EYFS (early years foundation stage ) which is an educational framework which allows me to plan for your child.  The framework has 3 prime areas of learning and 4 specific areas.  I observe, assess and plan for your child using these areas, this is then complied into a quarterly report with each area being covered about your child.

Working as a childminder puts me in a good position to ensure that I can tailor activities to ensure that your child gets the most learning from both planned activities and from help with routines in the home, such as laying the table for snack.

I regularly attend training and if your child is making insufficient progress I may suggest the support from outside agencies such as speech and language therapy.  If your child needs support from an outside agency then I would follow their personalised plan.  At all stages you will be consulted.

In the past if I have had a child with a condition I am unfamiliar with, I have discussed with parents and liaised with health care professionals the care needed.

I pride myself on my relationships with parents, in the past I have attended courses on Autism with the parents so that we all have the level of understanding we needed to provide for the children.

I provide quarterly reports on the childrens progress these are sent to the parents and any health professional involved in their care (with parental permission).  This gives the opportunity for discussion and if need be changes to any plans for learning.

When ever I have new children I review my health and safety risk assessment to take into account any conditions that may cause a child to be at risk.

I am fortunate to have on street parking with a dropped curb directly outside my setting.  I have a single step to my front door, however I also have side access which may be more suitable, there is also access via the garden.  I have a downstairs cloakroom also.

I provide a transition report ( also sent to parents )

Within the setting we read books together on starting school, nursery or moving home etc.,

I have with parents consent/on their behalf visited with the child before their starting in a new setting.

Regular training and workshops

Questionnaires and report feedback forms

Annual review of policies and procedures

Regular parental conversation opportunities

Please contact myself Amanda Miller,  should I have a vacancy that may be suitable for you and your child, I will offer you a visit to show you my setting and explain further how I operate.  This will also be an opportunity to discuss funding or any extra SEN support needed.

I have an "open door" policy,  you are able to text, phone, email or whatapp me.  I also send out service feedback forms and have proved to be beneficial.
