Warden Bay Playgroup

Warden Bay playgroup is a friendly playgroup welcoming everyone. We cater for children age 2-4 years of age. We offer a variety of funding for 2, 3 & 4 year olds depending on qualifying criteria as well as privately funded sessions. We liaise with outside agencies to support the children in our care and have a good relationship with the local children's centre and schools. Warden Bay Playgroup is situated in a village hall, we are close to the beach and park which we visit regularly.

At Warden Bay Playgroup we promote self independence, learning life skills and building confidence in our children alongside following the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and supporting each child’s individual progress and learning. We offer a mix of child initiated play and adult led activities, following each child’s individual interests.

We feel children learn best when they feel comfortable and doing what they enjoy and we incorporate learning into their play. We abide by all safeguarding requirements and special educational needs, Ofsted requirements and the early years foundation stage statutory requirements to ensure all our children thrive in our care.

Description

At Warden Bay Playgroup Every child is welcomed, the staff have a range of experience in supporting children who may have additional needs and we have two special educational needs co ordinators who work with the key people to provide support for any child who may need extra support.

If your child is identified as needing extra support we will let you know and talk you through how we can support your child. We usually monitor children and put strategies in place for a couple of terms depending on age of child and if no progress has been made we will think about referring to the local inclusion team forum with your consent.

At the local inclusion team forum we will speak about your child needs and other professionals attending will decide how they can best help us to support your child. Warden Bay Playgroup has good relationships with the specialist teaching service who are part of the local inclusion team.

The staff at Warden Bay Playgroup has attended a range of training covering, makaton, ASD, Visual aids and learning, Autism, communication and langiage, attachment and behaviour.

Special Needs Support

At Warden Bay Playgroup we follow children's progress and monitor children using observations to see how they are developing. Sometimes we may notice a child who may not be developing as we would like  and they may be experiencing difficulty in certain areas. This is not a problem but we do need to decide the best way in which we can support your child so they can reach their full potential. Firstly we will monitor and put smart strategies in place to see if we can improve on your childs progress. If this is not achievable then we will speak to you about involving outside agencies and referring to LITF (local inclusion team forum).

At Warden Bay Playgroup each child is allocated a key person and they will be responsible for your child's learning and development.

We have a welcome meeting where you will get to speak to your child's keyperson about any concerns you may have when they first start. Each keyperson will monitor and support your child, your child's keyperson will speak to you about any concerns they may have, they will also speak to the senco so the senco can help support the key person to support your child. Your child will be put onto a targeted plan while they are being monitored with strategies in place to improve progress. You will kept updated at every stage and your permission will be sought before any referrals are put into place.

If referrals to LIFT are made and outside professionals become involved your child will move onto a personalised plan which caters specifically for your child needs.

At Warden Bay Playgroup your child's keyperson will be your point of contact, they will alongside the senco to discuss strategies put in place to support your child. The key person will work on these strategies with your child on a daily basis to develop your child's learning and development. The senco will review your child's progress with you each term.

Warden Bay Playgroup has two Special educational co ordinators who both have extensive training in special educational needs. We have a range of experience also to help make judgements and best plan to support your child and adapt our resources and environmaent in order to do this.

We are situated in a large hall which is suitable for wheelchair access the outside area is also accessible and suitable for wheelchair access. We are a packaway playgroup so our furniture and environment can be set up to adapt to any needs or requirements.

At Warden Bay Playgroup any activities can be adapted to suit children's needs and level of understanding. All children are encourage to participate in activities and these will be adapted if needed to enable this to be achieved. No child is excluded. We cater for children with sen and allergies and it is not unusual for us to use alternative or additional resources so the children can participate.

If your child does need extra support and is referred to LIFT we may be able to claim additional funding (SENIF) to help us support your child.

At Warden Bay Playgroup children who are part of the sen register will have their personalised plans reviewed every term, the senco will discuss with parents  how their child's doing and what progression they have made, if no progress has been made then a change of strategies maybe needed and this will be discussed with parents also. We also hold parent's evenings three times a year where progress and development is discussed with you by their key person.

At Warden Bay Playgroup we work to the early years foundation stage and constantly review progress every term changing next steps when they have been achieved to ensure children are constantly making progress. We use an online system called Tapestry to upload observations of your child and tracking of your child's progress is monitored on their reports which are uploaded to Tapestry three times a year. Parents have access to Tapestry and are encouraged to post observations of their home life and adventures for us to share between home and the playgroup.

At Warden Bay Playgroup key people are available to speak to whenever you need.

Although Warden Bay Playgroup do not hold training for parents we do offer guidance in our welcome packs and newsletters, we also on our parents board have copies of midas centre training courses for parents and sign post parents to Beaches our local children centre who also offer support for parents

At Warden Bay Playgroup we do our best to meet the needs of our children, children's views are taken seriously and incorporated in to our planning. Every child whether verbal or non verbal has the right for their voice to be heard. Every couple of weeks we do a mind map around the activities or child interests and this is made up of the children views and opinions. We have a planning folder so children can choose activities they may want to do, as not every child will know what they want to do or be able to express themselves so we use visual aids for children to be able to communicate with us.

At Warden Bay Playgroup we understand that children may have medical and care needs,  medicines will be given and recorded if they have been prescribed by a doctor. Staff are able to administer asthma pumps if and when they are required this will also be recorded. Staff are also willing to be trained to use any equipment that may be needed to ensure the care and safety of a child. Nappy cream or cream for eczema/sores will be applied with parents permission.

At Warden Bay Playgroup we take behaviour very seriously and have rules and boundaries in place, these will be revised with the children at the end of each session to ensure and develop  listening skills and attention. Children are told what behaviour is acceptable and which is not acceptable. We also use visual signs to reinforce these rules. A child will be asked three times to stop their negative behaviour if the child still continues after the third warning then we will use distraction techniques if this does not work the child will be given time to reflect for a couple of minutes to calm down and reflect on the situation. A staff member will then speak to them about their behaviour and why we don't behave in that way. We have a range of social stories that we use at story time to reflect on positive and negative behaviour.

Warden Bay Playgroup has two special educational needs coordinators in the setting, we work closely with The specialist teaching service in Kent to help support children whom may need it in our care. You will be informed every step of the way and termly chats with the senco will be arranged.

All children who attend Warden Bay Playgroup take regular trips to the beach. park, and local environment. These trips are adapted so all children can participate and extra staff or parent volunteers will be sourced to ensure children's safety

At Warden Bay Playgroup we have a ramp access leading to the entrance of the building, we have a large hall and being a packaway setting our environment can easily be adapted. we have a ramp leading to our outside area and access to a disable toilet. All our tables, sand and water trays are of a child's height, toys can easily be moved and are accessible to all children.

At Warden Bay Playgroup we have good links with our nearest primary school and have regular contact leading up to transition. The reception teacher and teaching assistant always visits the playgroup and we have meetings with the senco to discuss children and their needs. We also attend a transition meeting for the schools on the Isle of Sheppey as we are aware not all children will attend the local primary school so this ensures all information regarding children will be passed on to the school the child will be attending.

At Warden Bay Playgroup we review children's sen plans and discuss these with parents. We also have a questionnaire where parents care freely voice their judgements and opinions regarding all aspects of the setting.

Please contact Michelle Bailey  the manager of Warden Bay Playgroup to see if we have vacancies or pop in to Warden bay Village hall to pick up a registration form.

At Warden Bay Playgroup we have a parents comment book, annually parent questionnaires and a poster and policy on procedures for making a complaint.

If you wish to make a complaint the manager will need this in writing this will be discussed with the committee members and steps on how we can resolve the complaint will be taken. A decision and meeting will be held with the committee, manager and parent to come to a satisfactory agreement.

If this cannot be achieved we always display ofsted's complaint poster for you to contact.
