Weald Preschool has been established for over 50 years within the village situation. It is held within a large Church Hall which provides a spacious hall and a smaller side room. It also benefits from a large enclosed garden area which provides year long educational environment to explore and learn from. We are as inclusive as possible and are always willing to find ways to overcome most hurdles, with the input from many other professional bodies. We are a small friendly group that always puts children and families at the fore front of our planning, and actively seek input from families.

We always try to be as inclusive as possible within the confines of a shared building. We have had many children with additional needs over the years and all their requirements have been met.

Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
When your child starts with us we ask you to complete a registration form that includes a section about your child's interests, strengths and any areas that they might need extra support. We also assess their starting points in line with the document Development Matters.
If your child is aged 2 when they start with us then we will also complete the Progress Check at 2. This is a statutory assessment and will be discussed with you.
We also complete a Progress Tracker 3 times a year. This highlights any areas that your child may need additional support as well as areas that they may be excelling in.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
We use a Key Worker system. Your child's key worker gets to know you and your child and forms a bond with them. This builds a positive relationship with you and your child and you can contact them at any time.
There are may ways that you will be informed and involved with how your child is supported:
Daily informal contact at drop off and pick up times
Learning Journal that will be sent out each term
More formal meetings either at our or your request
Parents are also involved in any extra planning that may be required for your child such as Targeted Plans
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
We plan for the Unique child and adapt our planning to suit the child
We are able to make changes to the layout of the hall
We use the Early Years Best Practise Guidance at the universal level, targeted level and at an individual/ personalised level. It contains suggestions for planning, provision, continuous professional development, environmental, curriculum and communication
We write targeted plans and personalised plans to give children the most appropriate foundation for progress
We build links with outside agencies and therapists to ensure that their programs are carried through in the setting. Therapists and outside agencies are welcome to come to the setting to see the child and give our practitioners advice
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
We have a large hall and the layout of equipment and soft furnishings can be varied to suit the child. We also have a smaller room that is used for quiet times and small group activities
We plan activities for the Unique child, including the characteristics of effective learning. We also use the best Practice Guidance to support our teaching
We get help and advice from KCC Equality and Inclusion services and SEN services.
We liaise with outside agencies to ensure therapists recommendations are carried through
We use a visual timetable as well as other visual support aids
The staff are trained in Early Years practice and we have a trained and experienced SENCO. Our staff are also trained in basic Makaton sign language
Parents are involved in all aspects of planning for their child
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
We build a close working relationship between Key person, SENCO and parents
If your child is not making sufficient progress this will be discussed with you. If required and with your permission we refer to other agencies for support and advice including referral to the Specialist Teaching and Language Service.
Staff regularly attend workshops and training to gain knowledge to help us support your child
We work with outside agencies to provide the support your child needs
If your child has a condition that we are not familiar with then our SENCO will research the condition and inform all the other staff of their findings. We may also ask you to come and talk to the staff about your child.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
Your child's key worker monitor their progress using observations. All aspects of learning are covered by the observations. These observations will be shared with you in the child's journal and in meeting, either informal or formal, with you
Targeted and personalised plans are reviewed every 6 weeks and they include input from parents
Assessment form the observations are used to inform the progress tracker three times a year
Planning is carefully monitored and differentiated to include all children
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
We are committed to ensure that our setting is inclusive for all children. We ensure our planned activities are suitable for or adapted to meet all the children's needs and we evaluate the activity afterwards with staff and parents.
We research in advance of any preschool outing (risk assessment) taking into account all the childrens needs and feedback afterwards
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
The hall we use is single story with no steps. There is a ramp to the doors and the doors are wide enough to fit wheelchairs through. The flooring is level and rugs can be removed if they might cause a problem. There is an accessible large toilet and changing facility
The hall has a large car park that does not have painted bays
We have a large outside space that is grassed and uneven.
Where ever possible we will make reasonable adjustments to meet the needs of the child,parents and staff
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
All relevant paperwork including the childs journal and progress tracker will be shared with the new setting with parents consent.
We invite teachers/SENCO from the new setting to visit the child in our setting
We hold as many transition meetings with the new setting as required
We plan activities such as school uniform dressing up and have photos of the new setting to share with the child
We arrange visits to the new setting
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
We have 2 trained SENCO's and they regularly attend LIFT meetings and SENCO forum meetings so that they are updated on all issues
All staff regulary attend relevant training
We consider that our SEN provision is good and we have good relationships with the inclusion team and outside agencies
Parents can take part in this evaluation by completeing our annual questionaire
We have an open door policy and parents can talk to the SENCO/Keyworker/Manager at any time that is conveniant to both parties

We have an open door policy and parents can talk to staff at any time that is convenient to both parties and we welcome constructive feedback
