Greenfields Nursery

We are a full day care nursery and After School Club situated next door to Sandgate Primary School, Coolinge Lane, Folkestone,Kent CT20 3QU. We offer full day care between the hours of 8am and 6pm, 50 weeks of the year. Our nursery is open for children aged 2-4years and our After School Club is currently open for children aged 4 - 11years and who attend Sandgate Primary School.

Our building is a brand new purpose built nursery consisting of two rooms. We have a large outside play space to the front and back of the building and an outside cabin which can be used in all weathers.

The nursery follows The Curiosity Approach to teaching and learning, using authentic, natural and curious resources which spark children's imaginations. We use the seasons and the local environment to engage children in purposeful and challenging play opportunities. Our aim is to create a warm, nurturing space and 'a home from home' feel, where children feel a sense of belonging and where they can express themselves freely. 

We have close links with Sandgate Primary School and our local community which we value as being an integral part of our nursery setting. We build close relationships with our families and actively seek out family involvement within our nursery. Our children enjoy trips out and about within the community, such as, the woods, beach and library.

Our planning approach puts the child at the centre of all we do and our Key Person approach ensures that children learn and develop in a way that responds to their needs and interests. 

Our ethos and mission is to 'Create the Thinkers and Doers of the Future'  within a mindful, nurturing and challenging space where children learn and develop through 'Play'

We offer an inclusive environment which caters for all children. Our fully trained and experienced nursery team ensures all children are cared for and their needs are met. Our SENDco works closely with families to support children's additional needs and ensures outside agencies work closely with the nursery.

Local Offer


Our setting supports children who have an additional educational need or disability and works with families to access outside agency support. Our Manager and SENDco ensures the Local Offer is kept relevant and updated to provide families with the information that they need to make the best choice of setting for their child.

Special Needs Support

When a child enrols with us we work closely with the family to ensure we know the child well before they start. We invite parents to look around our setting to see if our provision is what they are looking for for their child. At this first meeting we will discuss any concerns the family may have about their child and the transition to  nursery. We ask the family to complete an enrolment form which asks for any services which are working with the family and child and any additional needs the child may have.

We offer 'Home' visits which ensure that we form a relationship with the child and their family and identify any immediate needs the child may have.

When the child begins nursery his/her Key Person will carry out a Starting Point assessment which will identify a possible additional need. These assessments are carried out frequently to quickly identify any changes in the way children are learning and developing . A Two year old check is also carried out and shared with the parents to ensure development is where it should be.

Our experienced team are assessing learning and development constantly and will work alongside our setting SENDco to support children who have been identified as needing extra support . Our SENDco attends outside agency meetings to further support children.

We work closely with all of our families and offer a partnership approach with information being shared openly. Parents are actively involved in their child's learning and development needs and will be consulted on each and every conversation we have with our own nursery team and any outside agency involvement.

Strategies which we implement to support the child will be shared with the family and the family encouraged to support these at home. The Key Person, SENDco and Manager offer informal chats, formal meetings, phone conversations and emails to keep parents informed on decisions concerning their child. We also use our Parent App, Blossom to send daily updates on well-being and learning throughout the day.

Parents are able to raise any concerns they may have, in the first instance, to their child's Key Person, who will share this with the SENDco and Manager.

Our setting will take advice and support from Specialist Teachers and outside agencies who are involved with the child. We will follow strategies that are put in place and ensure that our team understands the needs of individual children. Our setting is easily adaptable to ensure all children can access the learning environment. We differentiate our experiences to ensure all children are able to actively participate and learn alongside their peers.

Parents are welcome to talk to their child's Key Person at any time, either face to face or over the phone. We encourage parents to discuss any worries straight away and we will support them in any way that we can. Our setting works with the Early Years Foundation Stage, Development Matters guidance, to track children's development and learning. If we are concerned that a child is not making progress or that they are significantly low in any area we will inform parents of our concerns and work with them to support their child.

During the school day parents are kept informed about what has happened via a diary entry on our parent app, Blossom and a handover conversation at the end of the session from their child's Key Person or buddy( the Key Person who works with the child's Key Person) 

If children have strategies put in place from outside agencies these will be shared with the family so that they can be implemented at home.

Planned strategies will be implemented by the child's Key Person or SENDco . All other planning happens 'In the Moment' and responds to the child's learning as it happens.

At times we may offer parent learning events which will aim to inform parents of our curriculum and how we deliver teaching and learning to children.

Each child is allocated a Key Person who oversees the learning and development needs of each child. The Key Person forms a close relationship with the child and their family and will support the child with all of their personal needs and care.We administer medication in line with our policy, we will only administer medication prescribed by a doctor and we require parents to complete a form prior to administration. For medical care we will seek training and advice from a specialist nursing team or doctor.

We manage behaviour in line with our behaviour policy and act on the advice of outside agencies to implement strategies to support children.

We aim to seek the views of our children through conversation, play, games and discussions with their family.


Our setting has an established, qualified and experienced team who work alongside outside agencies to deliver outstanding care to all of the children who attend. Our Manager and SENDco have been trained to identify and support children who have additional needs and support the whole team when devising and implementing additional support.

Within our continuous provision we ensure that all experiences are offered to all of the children who attend. When adaptations are made, the team fully risk assess the implementation of these in line with our policies and procedures.

In the event that we plan any outings or trips we make sure that we visit the site prior to the outing and risk assess the area itself and the travelling to and from the venue. This will be in consultation with the parents.

Our building is easily accessible from the road with no steps. We have a ramp which we use to access the building and a toilet accessible for wheelchairs. The setting is open planned and all areas are accessible.

In the event of a planned outing or trip we risk assess this in consultation with the child's parents.

For those children who are leaving us to move onto a new setting or school, we ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible and that there is a consistency of care.

We will have meetings with the new setting or school to share any information that will support the child. This will inform the next setting what provision we have in place and what has worked well for the child.

For families who have English as an additional language we will seek ways to convey to them information and support services that they can access.

We assess the overall effectiveness of our SEN provision through parent/carer questionnaires and through audits of our setting. We seek advice from outside agencies to support this while they are carrying out child visits and assessing our environment.

When a child joins our setting we ensure that we collect all the information that we need to ensure a smooth transition. We will resource further advice and information if we remain unclear or we need to know more.

We have a robust system in place for complaints as set out in our Policies and Procedures. We take all complaints very seriously and will respond in writing to each complaint within a given time scale. We welcome responses from all of our parents both negative and positive and we aim to improve our practice after taking account of comments made to us.

The owner and Manager will investigate all complaints made and follow up and report the impact of the complaint and any changes that have been implemented as a result.
