Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
When a child is about to start at the setting the parents are given a pack to compete which is a starting points and shows the childs particular strengths or weaknesses.
At two years old a child would have a progress check which would be given to parents to share with the health visitor when they attend their progress check.
Any concerns would be discussed with the parents.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
Each day i send out whattsapp messages giving parents an overview of their childs day. I would ask parents to come and have a chat with me when they collected their child if i had any concerns that needed addressing.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
Through communication and language and providing a language rich environment giving evety child the opportunity to talk and listened to. Also by offering an accessible environment for parents and children to feel safe in and building links and working in partnership with any therapists or agencies
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Working as a childminder puts me in a good position as i am the key person that the child will have contact with which enables me to tailor all the activities i provide around different children and the tasks that they enjoy.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
I regularly attend training programmes or courses on childcare.co.uk to keep up to date and would involve my self in any SEND training to benefit the child
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
I have a very good relationship with all my parents who are welcome to come in and chat when they collect their children at the end of the day. Any concerns are always addressed
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
We take trips out on a daily basis and everyone s included. Sometimes i have to revise or risk assess the trips we are making to ensure everyone is safe
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
For wheelchair access i would have to arrange for a ramp as we have a small step leading into the house
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
The children prepare for school by visits to the school going to the school fayres and Christmas fayres to familiarise themselves with it. We talk about school and collect other children from there
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
By talking to parents about their needs and reviewing things
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Andrea Beale
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
I have a compliments and complaints form that is accessible to parents
