Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
When first meeting with parents, we can identify any concerns parent's may have regarding their child's development.
We take into account the child's interests are.
Using the Development Matters document, i will put together a baseline report.
At 2 years, a statutory assessment will be done by myself. Any development concerns or issues can then be recognised and addressed. A plan can also be put in place for the next steps.
Using my own previous experience, i can identify when children may need extra support.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
Most days i chat with parents on how their children are progressing within the EYFS, also parents inform me on what's happening at home.
Whatsapp photos are sent daily to show the child's day.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
Every child develops at a different pace.Where we recognise this, we plan daily routines in the EYFS areas to suit all the stages of development and adapt them accordingly.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
After a chat with the parents on the needs of the child, i would assess my daily planning to ensure it meets the needs of the child.
I will continue with what works well at home with regards to equipment, favourite places, whatever will help the child within the setting, building on confidence, self esteem and joining in.
I would research the internet in the area of need/difficulty for any extra help.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
If, after plans have been put in place, myself or the parent feels the child needs additional help then we would look to other agencies.
I always recommend a conversation with the health visitor.
If necessary, i would write observations / keep a diary and pass these onto others.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
answer in q3
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
All my trips are inclusive. I pay for the trips that children attend. I risk assess all trips making sure i have the correct equipment to safeguard the children.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
Unfortunately my home layout isn't accessible for wheel chair access.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
I am happy to provide an up to date progress report for the child, detailing their likes, dislikes plus how they've been in my setting.
I'm also happy to chat with new staff.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
By constant contact with parents and receiving any feedback from them.
Being informed of any LIFT meetings and will attend these ( Local Inclusion Forum Team )
Reviewing policies and procedures regularly
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
I would recommend an informal chat and visit to agree that my setting is the right one.
We would then agree a settling in session .
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
Feedback is generally verbal from parents, which i take on board.
Complaints can be made to me or through Ofsted, which is displayed on a poster or or the number is available on their contract.
I have a complaints procedure that i follow.
