Special Needs Support

At first meeting we can establish any concerns parents may have concerning their child’s development including what their interests are.

I will create a baseline referring to a document called Development Matters.

I will carry out a Progress Check at 2 which is a statutory assessment and this may be a time when any delay in development may be recognised and can be discussed with a plan on what next steps to take.

I have had previous experience with identifying children who may need extra support.

I will give constant feedback via face to face contact (daily) Diaries (Contact book) and Whats app.

Photos and observations are given termly via a detailed report in all relevant EYFS areas.

In order to adapt the EYFS framework to the specific need of your child I observe, assess and plan for your child in three prime areas up to the age of 2 and four more specific areas from the age of 2 to 5 years.

If I have a child with additional needs I will assess my setting. As a childminder I can tailor activities to ensure that your child gets the most learning from both planned activities and from helping in the home , helping with their confidence and helping them become as independent as possible to help build upon their confidence as well as self esteem.

If, after a discussion about your child’s progression, we feel they are making insufficient progress we (parent, myself) may jointly decide to refer to other services such as Language and Speech Therapy and tailor a personalised plan for your child – I will need your consent for any referrals made.

Please see Q3

I regularly take trips around our local environment such as parks, nature trails and reserve. I revise our health and safety risk assessment taking into accounts the needs and possible risks for both existing and new children.

Whilst my home is accessible for children I would have difficulty accommodating a wheelchair due to the structure of my home.

I complete progress/transition reports for children transferring from my setting to school which I give to the parents to pass on to the relevant teacher.  I welcome any visit from the school the child is transferring to in order for them to see the child in my setting.

The way I intend to assess the overall effectiveness of my SEN provision is to include any parents in my evaluation, keep informed of any LIFT meetings (Local Inclusion Forum Team) and attend if required, review my policies and procedures accordingly and have regular parent contact.

If the parent and I decide I am the right setting for their child, we would agree sufficient settling in days over a set period of time to ensure their child is happy and I am the right setting for their needs.

I welcome feedback from parents and pride myself on the relationship I have with parents.  If there is a concern I have a specific complaint procedure to follow in my policies of which parents will be given a copy on completion of contract.
