Special Needs Support

I like to get to know my families and children,by doing so i am able to start to identify any additional needs.

When a child starts with me ,i send a form called ' all about me' this will help me get to know a childs likes/dislikes-and any help/needs that  the family have already identified.

I have completed relevant training and by working with families we can pick up any needs that may require additional support.i make observations and review progress with the parents, and will make any referrals to the appropriate professionals.

I try to build strong relationships with families and children.

I keep parents informed of what their child is doing and any concerns that i have .

I use a daily diary/learning journal, i also chat to parents on collection of their child to inform of how the day has been .

Whats app is used  to send pictures and up date during the session.

If we have any concerns a meeting out of hours can be arranged so we can collaborate and put a targeted plan in place

I will adapt the EYFS for each child , providing a language rich environment which meets the needs of all my current children.

Small group activities and ideas for parents to try at home and to promote well being and resilience

I shall link with local specialists and health providers for advice and support.

i have an awareness of environmental factors such as noise, colour, lighting and textures, we frequently make use of our outdoor space and make this available to all

Working as a childminder lets me tailor my activities to each child/ small group of children.

Being a small group helps me to teach daily routines such as laying the table/eating at the table.

I use daily diaries to inform what we have been doing/learning and  in this will add any ideas of things  to do at home to .continue their learning

If your child is not making sufficient progress with a targeted approach, I may recommend referring to other services such as speech and language therapy.

If your child starts to receive support from outside agencies then a targeted plan would become a personalised plan.

Your consent is required to make a referral. This would be through the local inclusion forum team which is held 6 times a year, if accepted a specialist teacher would visit your child and make further referrals for other services.

I regularly complete training and if i receive children  with a condition i am not familiar with I research information and get help from health professionals to fully understand

I pride my self on my relationship with parents and will regularly meet for catch ups of the things i have monitored and how i am supporting their learning,

Physical and emotional development.I am legally obligated to do a 2 year check and will be available to discuss any areas which may be of concern.

I make a commitment to be inclusive and enable all children to be included .

I regularly risk assess any trips to take into account any areas where a child maybe at risk.

My home is wheelchair user accessible.

I have a drive for 2/3 cars at the side of my house.

i have a fairly large downstairs cloakroom and a flat entrance through the front door.

I will support childrens transition by,

Doing a 2 year check and sourcing any additional help.

A transition report can be done to pass onto the new setting with any observations i have made.

We can talk, play look at pictures of the new setting and if needed a visit could be arranged

I assess by reviewing the training i have done.

I have an annual review of all policies? procedures and training

I send out an annual questionnaire to get feed back from parents

Please contact Christine East for an initial visit.

I am happy to have several home visits and settling in sessions .

we can discuss needs and make a plan for settling your child if you feel this may help the transition

To receive feedback I have an open door policy and like to receive ideas and comments from parents and children .

I send out a questionnaire annually (at least)for both parents and children, i always welcome constructive feedback

I have a complaints policy which is emailed to parents on sign up, i also include a complaints form on start up with all the relevant numbers for a parent to make a formal complaint if we have been unable to resolve
