The University of the Third Age (U3A) movement is a unique and exciting organisation which provides, through its U3As, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery!
White Cliffs U3A currently have 370 members who are from Deal, Dover and Sandwich and their associated villages and we alternative activities in each area. Members share their skills and life experiences: the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them.
The Leaders give freely of their time and expertise and, in many cases, generously allow courses to be held in their homes, enabling us to set any fees at a very modest level. All our groups combine learning with sociability. We have fun while we learn.
New members are made to feel welcome at a small gathering with a couple of Committee Members. We have two regular monthly events where you can get to know other members; one week, we have an afternoon meeting with a talk from an external speaker; another week there is a coffee morning, with a presentation by a U3A member: both are popular and well supported events.
