- Kiddies Corner was established in 2004 and become pre-school when we opened our second nursery in 2013.
- We are based in a hall as a pack away setting (in Herne Bay Football Club) and operate 9.00-3.30 term time only. Children staying all day or arriving for the afternoon session are asked to bring in healthy packed lunches.
- We are local to the town and all its amenities, including the memorial park which has a large playing field, play park and sensory garden which we visit with the children. Also during the summer months, we visit the local seaside and local wild animal park.
- We have very close links with our sister setting, regularly visiting each other and sharing experiences e.g. the fire service, the police, pony and trap, reptiles.
- We have a fairly large outside space, some of which is sheltered by a canopy with soft surface on the ground. Most of the garden is concrete floor with some small areas for digging & planting, a large sand shed with buckets & diggers and an area of Astro turf with log chairs and balancing beams. We are also able to use a large grassed area just behind the blue building where we hold Sports Day, family picnics and are able to let the children explore their physical development.
- We have 9 members of staff all British with qualifications ranging from qualified teacher status, level 6, level 3. The overall manager has 20+ years’ experience in early years, the room manager is a qualified teacher who leads on practice with 19+ years teaching experience 6 of which are in early years. Our supervisor has 18+ years’ experience in early years. All staff have DBS checks, The all staff hold Paediatric First Aid and all hold basic safeguarding qualifications, Prevent duty, FGM and food hygiene to level 2.

How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
A child’s needs are identified by speaking to parents, discussions with staff, communications with outside agencies, observations and/or assessments completed by the staff
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
As a setting we communicate daily with parents, hold parents’ evenings twice per year. Parents are invited to contribute to and agree targeted or personalised plans, involved in EHCP process, all children have learning journeys to show progress which are available for parents at any time.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
The key person will plan for each individual child, using knowledge of the child and their next steps. Targeted and personalised plans will be written based around your child’s needs, using advice and strategies from outside agencies as well as our own knowledge of the child. We ensure targets are realistic and specific to every child.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Staff follow specific recommendations from outside professionals, including the use of visual supports, Makaton signing, time lines, now & next boards and social stories. The setting offers a variety of interventions such as Early Talk Boost, Maths, Language group, story sacks, Fizzy and Clever hands. We have communication friendly spaces
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
We pride ourselves on our close relationships with all of our parents. The nursery SENCO is always available to offer advice and support to families attending appointments and completing any relevant paper work or phone calls to ensure all professionals come together
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
Your child’s key person will carry out planned weekly activities, observing and scaffolding your child’s progress. This information is shared with parents twice per year in a progress report and your child’s developmental level will be tracked and progress analysed by the setting manager. Targeted and personalised plans are reviewed termly (6 times per year) and parents are involved in this process. We may also hold additional meetings to discuss transitions or other things that come up.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
Where possible all activities provided will be accessible to all children, for some planned trips parents may be asked to accompany their child.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
At present there is limited access to the front of the building, once inside the nursery it is on one level with access to the garden.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
We would arrange for the setting/school to come and observe and talk to the key worker, arrange additional visits to the new setting/school with the support of key worker if needed. We are able to provide the child/family with a personalised book all about the new setting/school. Meetings between key staff from both settings to share information are arranged before transition
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
Parents are invited to complete questionnaires regarding the nursery set up, their child’s thoughts and feelings about coming to the setting and to make any suggestions on how to improve.
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Parents should ring the setting and arrange for a visit, ensuring they speak to staff about any concerns or additional requirements they may have.
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
We have an open-door policy where there is always a senior member of staff available. Parents are able to message the manager directly or post onto our secure Facebook group. Past parents have left reviews on our public Facebook page or email. If parents feel it necessary to make a complaint the nursery will follow their written procedure.
