Penenden Heath Pre-School

We are a community run Pre-School which has been established for over 50 years. We meet at the Social Hall which is situated behind the tennis courts at Penenden Heath. There are parking facilities at the Heath and a short walk through pretty gardens takes you to the Social Hall. We have our own purpose built garden which the children enjoy every day whatever the weather. Please contact us to arrange a visit and find out more about us.

Special Needs Support

  • Parents are asked to complete an initial Registration Form on our website
  • On acceptance of a place we ask you to complete a “My Learning Journey prior to Starting Pre-School” leaflet which gives us the chance to get to know your child and their particular strengths or areas where they may need extra support.
  • Information shared from other settings and agencies
  • Key Person observations, using the three Prime Areas of Learning, form a base-line assessment within the first three weeks of starting at the group.
  • A Progress Check at Two is a statutory requirement for children three years of age.
  • If not previously identified, at this point, the key person may focus on a specific area of development, such as social skills, to plan additional opportunities for your child to gain further experience in this area.
  • At this point, with your support, a Targeted Plan would be put in place.
  • Key person continues to make observations within all seven areas of the EYFS.

We have designated staff who are responsible for SEND provision. Each child will have an assigned key person and parents and families are welcome to liaise with their key person, SEN staff and Manager as appropriate.

The needs for every individual child with SEND will be taken into consideration when adapting the curriculum.

  • We have an effective key person approach for all children.
  • We have an on-line developmental record keeping system, Tapestry, with regular observations being made. These are available for parents/carers to view and contribute to.
  • The key person monitors the child’s developmental progress by assessing, planning, “doing” and reviewing it.
  • Regular formal and informal opportunities to discuss progress are ongoing.
  • Termly assessments are carried out.
  • With the support of our SENCo the key person will review individual Targeted and Personalised Plans. These are amended and updated as required.
  • Regular review with parents and staff.
  • Activities are planned and then evaluated to ensure that they are suitable, or adapted, to meet the needs of all of the children.
  • Reasonable adjustments will be made to activities and the environment to suit specific individual requirements.
  • When organising extra curricula activities consideration is given to ensure the appropriate support is in place. These include sports days, Summer and winter parties and visitors.
  • Risk assessment and research is under taken prior to trips away from the setting. Parental involvement is actively encouraged.
  • The building is on one level and has ramps giving wheelchair access to all areas.
  • Accessible toilet and changing facilities are available.
  • Accessible by car with reasonable adjustment.

Please let us know if you have any difficulties with accessibility
