Abbey Court Nursing Home

Abbey Court Nursing Home is a large, detached building, set in its own grounds, and is situated just off the A20 in the village of West Kingsdown.

The property comprises an original period house, and additional wings which were purposely built. It is managed and owned by Mrs. R Persand, who is a trained nurse with experience of caring for older people. She is assisted by a highly qualified matron, who oversees all clinical care. The matronis a Registered Nurse with many years’ experience. She leads a dedicated team of Qualified Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, each of whom has been selected for their warmth of personality as well as their skills and experience. Our team of staff are devoted to the needs of our residents 24 hours a day. Staff members at all levels undergo continuous training and as a team, we endeavour to be one of the best care homes in Kent.

Our Matron  carries out a detailed health needs assessment of every resident prior to admission. Residents' care plans are reviewed and updated on a regular basis. We operate a key worker system which offers each of our residents an individual member of staff with whom they can establish a close bond. Residents own GP's are called to visit when our nurses require them to do so.

Accommodation is provided on two floors, and Abbey Court Nursing Home has 22 beds in total. All rooms can be easily accessed via two passenger lifts in different parts of the building. Each of our bedrooms is of a good size, and is pleasantly decorated with a light and airy feel. Most rooms have en-suite toilet facilities. All rooms are centrally heated and equipped with wash basins. Residents are most welcome to bring with them familiar items such as pictures, photos, ornaments and small items of furniture.

We have spacious lounge areas where residents meet to chat, relax, watch television and participate in activities. A quiet lounge is also available for sitting in peace.

Meals are usually taken in the dining rooms but can also be served in residents' rooms. At mealtimes our chefs prepare a selection of delicious and highly nutritious home cooked dishes. Fresh cakes are served at tea time, and refreshments are available at all times. Special dietary needs will always be met. We emphasize the importance of good nutrition and take great pride in the quality and variety of the meals that we serve.

Our bathrooms feature the most practical systems for bathing and showering. All laundry including personal clothing is carried out on the premises.

We welcome visitors at all times and will aim to accommodate any special requests that residents may have regarding their visitors.

We appreciate that each resident at Abbey Court is an individual with their own personal preferences and needs. Our stimulating social and activity programme is designed to offer options to those who enjoy participating in groups. These include Music and Movement, Visiting Speakers, Discussions, Quizzes, Crafts and visiting performers. Additionally, we are pleased to give individual attention to residents who wish to pursue personal interests in the privacy of their own room.

The safety and security of residents at Abbey Court is of paramount importance. Rooms are fitted with an easy to use call bell system for contacting staff.

At Abbey Court Nursing Home our philosophy is our dedication to meeting the needs of our residents and providing for their well-being within warm, comfortable and homely surroundings.
