Farm Work Play

Farm Work Play is located on an idyllic hilltop between the towns of Faversham and Whitstable.

Opened in June 2017, we are a full-day care, year-round, all-weather nursery.

Our aim is to give children a chance to take part in liberating experiences that are harder to come by in modern classrooms: climbing trees, digging holes, and making dens.

We are all about spontaneous, unstructured, and risky play. Space to move and explore is important to us, and so is fresh air, free play, and exposure to the natural world.

We give children the opportunity to grow up with a sense of freedom, cultivating their independence, confidence, whilst establishing a deep connection to their natural surroundings.

Come rain or shine, we nurture the curiosity and wonder that children naturally possess, at a pace that is as individual as they are.

Your children feel supported, loved, and protected in our home-from-home atmosphere. So here we are. A free-range pasture where free-range kids can learn and play together.

We hope you will join our growing Farm community.

Universal Funding

570 hours of funded childcare is automatically available for all families in England, from the start of the school term following your child’s 3rd birthday. (January, April, September)

You can choose to use your 570 hours over 38 weeks (term time) at 15 hours per week or stretch those over 48 weeks at 12 hours per week.

Extended Funding – up to 24 Hours per week:

An additional 570 hours of funded childcare is available for eligible working families in England, from the start of the next school term following your child’s 3rd birthday. Special Needs Support

Working closely with parent/carers from the first visit, establishing excellent partnership with parents is crucial to giving children the best possible start. Our team establish children's starting points alongside parents during their settle sessions before starting their journey with us. We have an open door policy and invite parents to attend open days/parent meet ups.

Their individual journey is tracked through play and observation's, using these we establish their next steps. Our next steps are delivered in two ways

  • Continuous next steps-extending what the child can already do/providing opportunities to promote ability and confidence.
  • Meaningful next steps- taken from the progress tracker, next steps are created where children are both above and below expectation for their age and stage of development

We work closely with outside agencies alongside the parents to gain the best possible support for all involved in the children care. We have 1 designated SENCO and 2 other staff including the setting manager is also a trained SENCO with the support of the equality and inclusion team.

Your child will always receive a complete handover at the end, this will tell you everything about their day and give you both the opportunity to discuss any concern's.

Should your child be identified with additional needs we will discuss this with you and together we will put a plan of action in place.

Each child is treated individually and we work with the children's interest to plan activities and develop their learning. Every child will have his or her own key person who will work alongside the SENCO to ensure that an individual plan is in place and that the child/family and key person is being supported.

We make use of the Equality and Inclusion team for advice and support and of the parents speacilist knd knowledge of their child, to put appropriate plans into place.

Our team use the Learning and Development tool set out in the EYFS to track and plan for each individual child with the support of the parents, the manager, SENCO and other relevant outside agencies.

We use lots of visual support and basic Makaton to support children's language development. Space for quiet time and lots of sensory activities and resources.

Group time and individual learning alongside well monitored free play to enable children to learn as they play in a safe environment.

We are members of Emporium plus, which allows us when available to borrow specialist furniture/resources that we may not otherwise have the funding for.

We also have our nursery library membership which enables us to borrow lots of books and story sacks to enable us to be relevant to our children at any given time, with specialist books and stories.

We work alongside other outside agencies such as the Equality and Inclusion team, Speech and Language, Portage, Health Visitors and other specialists. We will with parental permission seek out the best support for the child, family and our team to provide the best possible start.

We make sure or team is well trained and supported throughout and a knowledgeable and confident enough to be able to deliver quality care and learning.

Your child's progress will be tracked through observations and photographs, which will added to your child's own learning journal file. We encourage our parents to be an active part of the contribution, by sharing special moments such as your child's first time or a day out. This can be done again through photographs and comments we call "Wow moments"

All our activities can be adapted to ensure every child has the same opportunities to reach their fullest potential.

Staff ratios are always in place and appropriate risk assessments are completed before any trip is taken.

Our building is purpose built for wheelchair use and mobility difficulties. We have no steps into or in the building and wide doors throughout.

We liaise with new settings/schools, it is important that every child has a smooth stress-free transition and we support this by inviting teachers to our setting to meet the child in a safe, familiar setting. We help prepare the children through stories and role play and provide opportunities for them to talk about how they feel.

We aim to work alongside shared provisions such as child minders and other nurseries, with parental permission, this helps us to provide quality, continuity of care and learning for your child.

Parents are valuable in the effective assessment of our SEN provision, we ask that they be involved at every step from working together on a action plan that can be continued at both nursery and at home, and regular joint assessment on how it working and what if any changes need making.

Regular meetings ensure that we are working towards the same goal and that the child is always at the heart of everything we do.

The nursery manager Louise Harrison

Our team are always available for parent/carers to talk and answer any questions.

We have a complaints procedure in place and our setting provides a box for compliments and complaints if you wish to remain anonymous.

We pride ourselves on good parent partnership so ideally our open-door policy means parents feel confident in coming directly to us.

Questionnaires are set out for parents, 3 times a year and on leaving the setting.
