We are a mobile class room with a nice outdoor area.  We also have access to the school grounds - playground and adventure playground and grassed playing field.

We are rural and have access to local country side walks where we can show the children the small holding that is growing very near the school - at present goats, sheep, alpacas and pigs.  We are learning to look after our world so we have started to keep our fruit and veg scraps to feed the pigs.

We are  also at present going on lots of litter picks locally so that the children learn to look after their environment.

Our fees below rise in September annually.  The prices shown are from September 2023 to July 2024

WE ALSO INTRODUCED A VOLUNTARY SNACK FEE THIS WILL BE 25P PER MORNING SESSION FROM SEPT 2023 AND IF YOU CHOOSE TO NOT PAY IT THEN YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR OWN FRESH FRUIT FOR SNACK.

IF THERE IS ANOTHER PANDEMIC SITUATION IT MAY BE NECESSARY FOR US TO OPERATE DIFFERENT HOURS AS WE ARE IN SCHOOL GROUNDS SO WE MAY HAVE TO FIT AROUND THEIR TIMES OF ENTRY AND HOME TIMES THIS WILL BE COMMUNICATED TO PARENTS IF THE SCHOOL PLACES RESTRICTIONS ON US.

WE  WOULD HAVE AN EXTENSIVE RISK ASSESSMENT FOR THIS TIME WHICH IS REVIEWED REGULARLY RE GOVERNMENT GUIDANCE AND IS DONE FOR THE MAXIMUM SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN, THEIR FAMILIES AND STAFF AND THEIR FAMILIES. IT IS NOT DONE TO EXCLUDE OR DISCRIMINATE.

PANDEMICS ARE UNPRECEDENTED TIMES AND WE NEED TO OPERATE IN A WAY THAT PROVIDES SAFETY FIRST WHICH KEEPS THE WELL BEING HIGH FOR ALL AT TOTS R US. SO UNFORTUNATELY THIS MAY MEAN AT TIMES OF LOCK DOWN OR OTHER THAT OUR SERVICES ARE LIMITED TO PRIORITY GROUPS. WE WILL ALWAYS TRY TO INCLUDE ALL HOWEVER FOR SAFETY AGAIN THIS IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE.

Vacancies Details
We will have very limited vacancies from April 2024. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR INFORMATION - WE ADMIT NEW STARTERS AT THE BEGINNING OF A NEW TERM ONCE WE ENTER THE 2ND HALF OF ANY GIVEN TERM THAT WE ARE IN THEN A REGISTRATION VISIT WILL BE CONVENED AT THE END OF THE TERM TO START THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT TERM. Registration visits are arranged for school holidays/ END OF TERM or once the children have gone home on a Friday afternoon for the first 2 weeks of term. After this we aim to arrange a visit at the end of the term so that children join us at the beginning of a new term so it gives time for them to settle before we break for a school holiday. This is what we recommend so as not to hinder and have to restart a settling in period because a school holiday comes too soon when they have not fully settled. So visiting at an end of term or in a school holiday and starting at the beginning of a term is how we prefer our admissions at Tots R Us. Our waiting list and vacancies are dealt with in order of enquiry as we are finding that families are enquiring more now in advance than they did before. We are already experiencing high levels of enquiries for September 2024 Updated 6.3.2024

Notes

We can cater for additional needs, our staff are trained and knowledgeable.

Our approach is a very child led environment where we plan in the moment based on what the children are doing, are interested in and based on our knowledge of the children and what they need to learn next and based on what we plan to teach children at tots before they leave us and start school "our curriculum". Feedback is given to parents very much in the moment, which is done verbally through out the week with whatsapp and email and a closed group on facebook for ideas to have a go at home in the form of remote learning. The feedback to individuals is about your childs progress, updates, next steps as well as what you can help with at home. Summaries are handed out in the form of 'what I have been learning this week' during their focus week which happens for each keyperson group for one week of every term this record allows parents to see their childs current interests and achievements and emerging skills in group, as well as their wow moments and next steps. This way we feel the parents are much more informed and can help with their childs learning at home in the current moment rather than waiting all term for a summary. We encourage parents to share news of their child on a regular basis so that we too are updated on their wow moments and new emerging skills and interests at home.

We plan for cultural and what is going on in the world if we feel that it has positive learning potential for our children for example the changing seasons. We now enjoy yoga, baby ballet, and soccer club, cultural ie Halloween, poppy day, Chinese new year; we have annual visits from zoo lab, eggs to chick experience and caterpillars to butterflies and much more.

We plan from and follow the childrens needs and interests. Each child has a keyperson that is special to them; who knows their next steps and interests and will plan for these around what is happening on a session to session basis based on their knowledge of your child. This is shared with the whole team so that there is a whole team response to each child.

Our curriculum has the children very much at the heart of it so that we follow their interests, needs, talents and also we plan to ensure that children are school ready by way of independence and autonomy, we aim to teach them about their feelings and emotions so that they are on the road to self regulation as well as they can be confident to try, persevere and to succeed and reach their full potential. We place therefore a strong focus on personal, social and emotional development and on communication and language to ensure that children become skillful communicators that can make their needs known, plan - do and review and can express how they feel and why and relate that to others and situations as they arise. We place importance on physical development too by way of children learning what is healthy for their bodies by way of food, practices and exercise including a lot around healthy eating and oral hygiene - we aim to include parents very much in all of this too so that they can help at home and so we work in partnership together to enhance their childrens learning and experiences so that they reach their full potential and have a very i can do attitude :)

WE RUN AN ICAN SPEECH AND LANGUAGE GROUP EVERY MORNING FOR CHILDREN IDENTIFIED AS NEEDING SUPPORT WITH COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE AND WE ALSO FIND THIS BENEFITS NEW STARTERS AND THOSE NEEDING SUPPORT TO BUILD RELATIONSHIP SO THEREFORE THOSE NEEDING EXTRA SUPPORT WITH PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT. And in September 2024 we plan to embark on the NELI speech and language research project.

we also run a school starter group daily which involves learning many skills with a focus around language and literacy and communication and language - where we read stories and sing and play games to improve attention and listening and lots of maths and communication and language and literacy learning trough play.

Local Offer

Description

We aim to provide the best care to all families.  Please see our offer below.

*Footnote when admitting children with additional needs we will work closely with parents and have an open and honest approach that puts the child at the heart of all decisions.  If a child starts with us and additional needs are pre-identified or they start and additional needs that have not been highlighted by parents become apparent, we will speak to parents to make a plan that is best for their child.  This plan will include attendance patterns, activities or group work they will take part in and may include the introduction of a targeted plan and/or a personalised plan and referrals to outside agencies including the specialist teaching service.  Throughout this process the wishes of the parents will be considered BUT our fundamental aim will be to meet the needs and to achieve what is best for the child.

With regard to small step targets, in the main this will mean that attendance is one session a day ie 9 - 12PM for routine and so that the child can cope with preschool life - however this is determined on individual need and if a child needs a lower ratio / additional support place at tots (there are only so many of these per session available and once booked due to the number of other sessions booked then a child would have to go on our waiting list for a lower ratio/additional support place.) These are staffed for separately to the mainstream places for 2,3 and 4 year olds and as we are a small nursery we only have a small team there are limited places for these and we prioritise local families for these spaces. We work closely with families to ensure the child is at the heart of all decisions so each case will be dealt with individually. And that decisions will be reviewed periodically depending on the targets and progress made. This may result in a change to their requested or existing attendance pattern periodically so we can offer targeted support ie 1 to 1.

Please note we can only offer 2 children specialised 1:1 / 1:2 (lower ratio) support in any one given session ie 9-12PM ; so that we can work on targets and give the child the support they need to progress and thrive.  This is due to staff levels, but ALSO SO THAT ALL CHILDREN THAT ATTEND TOTS R US ARE GIVEN THE SUPPORT THEY NEED TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

Also re hours, we will only increase hours if we know the child is ready for them as we do not want to cause additional stress if they have not yet managed and coped with the hours they are already attending. This is monitored re all children that attend regardless of age or need - We are a small setting but we can get busy and this can be overwhelming to SEN children and 2 year olds. So we will generally place your childs attendance pattern in the morning sessions when we have the additional trained staff to support your child and to be able to fulfill the support needed for the staff and all of the other children attending tots r us.

Also in some cases before attendance can start we may need to get in place SENIF and LIFT support, so there may be a delay between registering your child and your child starting with us. All of this may mean that the attendance pattern offered may not be what you had requested, hoped for in the future or want, but the needs of the child, available sessions and safety are paramount and this is in our SEN core offer. SEN is offered in single sessions not as whole days unless the target on their plan is that we are working towards whole day attendance or the targets require whole attendance to be achieved. Or that your child can cope in the mainstream ratios and does not need a lower ratio place. In some cases identified needs result in needing more support therefore a lower ratio place and therefore single sessions in any one day are offered.

(Tots reserves the right to variations on any of the above if we feel we need to re staffing / numbers registered/ needs identified / targets that need working on.)
