Spadework - In West Malling, providing day opportunities for adults with learning and other disabilities

Spadework offers independent living skills training and work experience to adults with learning difficulties. This is done through activities such as:

  • Growing plants sold in the garden centre;

  • Growing fruit and vegetables served in the café and sold in the farm shop;

  • Making cakes, jam and chutneys and serving customers in the café;

  • Creating crafts and working with wood to be sold at the Farmers’ Markets and in the farm shop;

  • Using computers to print labels, plant information sheets and weather updates that help staff to plan the week.

Referral and availability notes

Let us know that you are interested in joining us at Spadework by contacting us on 01732 870002 or email us at info@spadework.org.uk.

We will arrange a date and time for you to come to visit Spadework during working hours so that you can see all the trainees working. A member of staff will show you around and explain how we work and the kind of training we can offer. You will be able to tell us about yourself and what your needs and interests are.

If you think you might like to come and work with us, then fill in an application form, return it to the office and we will make sure your name is added to the waiting list.

If there are not many names on the waiting list and you have funding to pay for our service we will arrange a Taster Day. A Taster Day is a day when for you to come and work with us to see if you like it. You may want to do a few Taster Days before you can decide.

If all goes well on your Taster Day we will arrange a day for you to start.

You can find the application form on the website.
