Special Needs Support

Before your child starts at the setting, I will collect information by asking you questions about your child and asking you to complete an 'all about me' document which will include for example - their likes, dislikes, routine, and any concerns you may have. This will give us a baseline assessment from which I will use to plan and implement routines and activities for your child.

I will work with you to identify any additional needs or Special Educational Needs by means of continuous observation, assessment and planning for their next steps.

I complete a Progress check at 2 years using the Kent Milestone Assessment Tool, I will discuss this with you and provide you with a copy to share with your health visitor at their 2yr check - This may highlight any areas of delay in your child’s development. I will tailor a targeted plan to support your child if this is the case.

I will be continuously observing and assessing your child and discuss routines and activities with you on a daily basis - at drop off and collection. I will share photos of your child’s day and any other relevant information via WhatsApp. Please feel free to share photos and information of what your child is doing at home.

I/you can arrange a mutually agreed time to discuss any concerns I/you may have about your child’s progress.

As a childminder I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and can plan and adapt activities to suit your child's needs and abilities across all areas of leaning and make them inclusive of my practice.

I am a small setting and can be flexible, tailoring activities and experiences to suit your child. This ensures that every child gets the most out of the routines and activities offered in the home environment.

Your child will have a targeted plan which we will use to work towards their goals. If your child requires additional help, I will refer your child with your permission for additional support.

I update my knowledge of SEND through regular training.

I have over 20yrs of experience working with children I can offer personalised support to you and your child.

I offer a graduated approach supporting children with SEND and this is set out in my SEND policy. I will make observations and set targets in relation to the child and from here I will make an assessment to see if further invention is required. This may be from outside agencies including speech and language therapists, the inclusion officer or advice from the local Early Years LIFT team. I will obtain consent from parents/carers before taking a child to LIFT, thus enabling us to seek advice and support from outside agencies. If outside agencies become involved targets will be set in the form of a personalised plan. Personalised plans are reviewed regularly, and new targets may be set if progress is being made. Regular meetings will be arranged with parents to review progress and set new targets or interventions.

If your child has additional needs that requires additional training, I would be happy to discuss prior to your child starting at the setting.

I have good working relationships with all my families supporting them with their child’s important early years.

I will speak to you on a daily basis and keep you updated verbally and with photos and information via WhatsApp. Share Observations and my assessments regularly as well as completing the statutory 2yr check.

I love to hear about what your child’s been up to at home what they have achieved, recent and ever-changing likes and dislikes. Working together gives your child a holistic experience and achieves the best outcomes in their wellbeing and development.

I am a small setting and can easily adapt and tailor activities, routines, and outings to suit a child’s individual needs. My practice is inclusive of every child and I'm able to adapt my practice to suit the needs of all children on a daily basis having regard to age, stage, disability etc.

All activities and outings are risk assessed taking into consideration all the children’s needs and abilities.

I work on the ground floor of my property and have a separate playroom - reasonable adjustments could be made and the property could be accessible if a ramp was used to access. A toilet is located on the same floor.

I will provide a transition report of your child’s progress for you to share with your child’s new setting. Support your child by talking about their transition to the new setting, reading books and sharing experiences. I am happy for your child’s new school or nursery to visit my setting.

I am happy for you to share my contact details should the new setting require any further information.

I am continually reviewing and assessing what my setting has to offer. Policies and procedures are updated annually.

I send out an annual questionnaire to parents and children to complete.

I keep up to date with relevant training.

Please contact me to discuss and arrange a time to meet.

Once the initial meeting has taken place and you wish to accept the vacancy, a second visit will be made, this will be to complete paperwork and discuss any requirements your child may have. I offer 2hrs free settling in - you may want to stay with your child for a short period then do an hour at first and build up slowly... I am happy to play this by ear - each child is different.

I have a Complaints procedure of which is given to parents/carers when registering for a vacancy.

Compliments and any previous complaints (confidentially/if appropriate) are openly shared on initial visit to the setting.

References are available on request and with permission my past and existing families may be happy to speak to new potential new families.
