Canterbury Archaeological Trust

The Canterbury Archaeological Trust was formed in 1975 to undertake excavations, research, publication and the presentation of the results of its work to the public.

We employ a team of highly qualified and experienced field archaeologists and specialists. Funded almost entirely through our commercial activities, research, education and publication are still very much at the heart of what we do.

Key Trust activities

  • We undertake archaeological fieldwork across SE England and desk-based research

  • We record standing buildings of historic and archaeological interest

  • We provide planning consultation and advice

  • We are the Investigating Authority for the Canterbury Area of Archaeological Importance

  • We publish reports of our work, both popular and academic

  • We manage the Archaeology in Education Service (AES) for Kent schools and colleges
