Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
I complete a progress check at 2 years using the Kent Milestone Assessment tool kit. I will discuss and provide you with a copy to share with your health visitor at the 2 year progress check. This may highlight any areas of delay in your childs development, upon which a tailored targeted plan will be produced to support them. Starting points and trackers are also used to monitor your childs progress.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
I will be continually observing and assessing your child. Routines and activities can be discussed at drop off and collection. Photos and relevant information will be shared via whats app and meetings can be arranged at mutually agreed times to discuss your childs progress or any concerns. A daily diary will be sent home with your child, informing you of our daily activities. There is a space for any parent comments to be recorded.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and can plan and adapt activities to suit your childs needs and abilities. Focusing on the 3 prime areas, I offer a language rich environment, small group or individual activities to promote resilience and well being and regular access to outdoor space. I am able to work alongside specialist therapists.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
I am trained in Early Years Practice and regularly update with new and refresher courses. As a childminder, I am able to tailor activities and experiences to suit your childs needs in a homely environment.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
i regularly attend training courses and update my SEND knowledge. If your child has a need that I am unfamiliar with, I will research and attend any necessary training.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
Your childs progress is monitored through observations and next steps. Photos are taken and can be sent on to you to see the achievements. Termly milestone assessments are completed and regular conversations of progress will keep you updated. We can discuss our methods of learning so we work together, both at home and in the setting.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
I run a fully inclusive setting to ensure all children enjoy the same experiences. Risk assessments are carried out prior to any trips or new experience to ensure the health, safety and suitability of every child is taken into account.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
I work from the ground floor of my home which includes a downstairs toilet. There are no steps at the entrance or exit of my house and all doors are wide, enabling easy wheelchair access.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
I drop off and pick up from my local schools. I take the younger children with me. We talk about the bigger children going to school and say hello to the teachers. I prepare the children for transition, promoting independence for example finding and putting on their own shoes and coat. I am happy to work alongside the new teachers to make the transition as easy as possible
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
Through continuous monitoring and assessment i can assess the overall effectiveness of my SEN provision. I encourage input and feedback from parents and send out an annual questionnaire to complete. Overall the effectiveness is measured by the progress made.
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Please get in touch with myself if you are interested in a place to arrange a home visit and some settling in sessions.
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
I have a complaints policy for parents to read and sign. My Ofsted poster is displayed on the wall with phone number if the parents feel they are unable to approach me direct. I have a compliment/complaints book left out freely for parent s to leave any feedback, and annual questionnaires are sent out.
