Special Needs Support

Parents / carers are invited to share their childs history and progress to date when they begin at the setting.

During their child's time here I discuss progress, both at the setting and at home, and together we set next steps. Parents / carers are encouraged to share any concerns or information they have about their child's health and progress.

I'm able to identify when a child isn't making expected progress and am confident to discuss this with parents in a sensitive manner.

I work with parents / carers of children with delayed development to create targeted plans, with an aim to encourage progress in identified areas.

These plans include simple activities which are carried out on a regular basis. Targeted plans are then reviewed termly to decide on the next course of action, in liason with parents/carers and other early years professionals.

Each child's needs are taken into account when planning experiences and activities for the children. This could include age, schemas, physical ability, ability to communicate, level of understanding, amongst others. Children are supported to access activities as appropriate.

At the setting we use visual aids, now and next boards, basic makaton, communication boards and choices boards to help children communicate and understand daily routines.

We have a dark den for sensory exploration and have a range of sensory and fidget toys to help children regulate.

Where a child has a medical condition, or when a medical condition arises, a care plan will be put in place to ensure that needs can be met, and procedures in an emergency. This is in liason with parents/ carers and medical professionals. Training may need to be undertaken before a child can start or return to the setting.

I build strong relationships with parents/ carers from the beginning, through daily discussion about their child's day, asking how they have been getting on at home.

Children's progress will be tracked termly, or more often if needed. Tracking will be shared with parents/carers.

Parents/carers are invited to make an appointment to discuss any concerns or questions that may take a little longer. Parents are actively encouraged to be invlolved in the review of targeted plans for their child.

Activites, outings and experiences are planned with the childrens needs in mind. Risk assessments are undertaken for outings and activities adapted to ensure all children are able to join in as much as possible.

There are 2 steps to enter the house. There is a step down into the garden, the garden is flat with a very small step dividing the hard / grassed areas. There is a downstairs toilet.

Prior to transition children's targeted plans can include ideas to prepare them for the forthcoming transition.

Transition reports are written for children moving onto new settings.

Transitions meetings can be arranged to discuss children's needs as required.

The effectiveness of the provision for children with SEN is reflected in the child's wellbeing and progress. Parents are invited to share their thoughts on this at meetings, and children are asked their views as appropriate.

Please contact Tracy Ledger to discuss your childs needs

Parents /carers are encouraged to complete annual questionaires.
