Kent County Junior Choir and Kent County Junior Singers - Kent Music

The Kent County Junior Choir (KCJC), was formed following the great success of the first three day residential singing courses for primary and younger secondary school pupils held at Benenden School. The Kent County Junior Singers (KCJS) followed due to the great demand for places in the Junior Choir. Members are from all areas of the county and are aged between 8–11 years (Kent County Junior Singers) and 11–14 years (Kent County Junior Choir).

The Junior Choirs meet one Saturday a month and attend a three-day residential course in the summer. They also provide an ideal stepping-stone to the more senior choirs.

Repertoire

Both choirs sing a variety of repertoire that is designed to give young singers an awareness of different periods and cultures of vocal music. The music is chosen carefully to provide an assortment of lighter pieces that may be arrangements of popular and folk songs and music from the classical periods.

Standard

The Kent County Junior Singers perform from memory and rehearse with a combination of words and notation designed to introduce the younger singers to the skills required to read music. The Junior Singers also sing in up to three part harmony and learn rhythm from an assortment of aural and written techniques.

Throughout their time in these county groups our young singers are musically guided and educated in the art of choral singing and general musicianship, providing an ideal springboard to the more senior choirs, Kent Youth Choir.

Conductors

The choir is led by choral and vocal specialists who also teach music and singing in the county’s schools and Kent Music Centres.
