Ashford Family Nursery is situated close to town, we are a small and affordable charity nursery, who care for children between the ages of  two to five. We have been open for nearly 60 years. We provide a safe and stimulating environment for children to play and explore, we have a beautiful large walled garden that the children enjoy all year round. we are an experienced team who have been working together for many years. We offer free for two funding as well as the 30 hours funding

we have a high ratio of staff to children, this allows us to care for and support each childs individual needs.

Our prices: £12.00 a morning session: 9:00-12:00

                 £12.00 afternoon session: 12:00-3:00

                 £24.00 all day: 9:00-3:00

We are situated in the Friends Meeting House close to the town centre The building and facilities  are on ground floor level which makes it easy for all to accsess.

As a small nursery environment we aim to provide the best care for the children in the setting. We are able to work closly with outside agencies to ensure children recieve any extra support they may need. 

Childrens development is tracked by their own key person, their key person will ensure that they are planning for childrens individual needs and abilities.

We cater to children with additional needs. We have a SENCO at the premises who supports the child throughout their time at the setting. We seek support and work closely with outside agencies to ensure we are providing the best care for all individual children.

Special Needs Support

Children’s development is observed and recorded this enables us to build a picture of the child as a unique individual. These records help us to identify any areas of development that may need more work or encouragement.

We work well with outside agencies, if we have concerns for a child with additional needs or SEND we use resources available to us and will take part in the lift process. Nurses, OTS, physios, SALT etc who are involved with the child are invited in so we can ensure we are doing the best for them. 

We have a very experienced member of staff who is SENCO trained, this is updated regularly.

Parents and carers are kept informed of their children’s development through observation, assessment, and word of mouth. We ensure parents/carers are kept up to date with how their children are supported with daily informal contact, opportunities for meetings at your request., Each child has a personal learning journey which is full of observations, photographs and developmental checks.

Each child is allocated a Key person who will record this information during your childs time at nursery.

The nursery adapts tasks, games and activities to support each individual child. This ensures that all children can join in and be a part of the nursery day. Ensuring we have planned for each day allows us to set the nursery ready for the group of children who are attending that day. The nursery room in comfortable and spacious which allows children to negotiate their way around safely. Furniture is movable to ensure extra room can be created if necessary.

Each child is allocated a Key person, the key person is responsible for recording and monitoring your childs development needs through the Early years foundation stage. We work with other agencies and follow childrens personal development plans.

Parents/carers are welcomed into the setting to discuss their childs needs. We also have space available so that meetings with other agencies can be held on the premesis.

Staff use learning strategies to support childrens different needs, For example staff use Makaton. The SENCO at the setting has many years experience in working with children with Speech and language needs, she works with children on a one to one following the programs set by the speech and language therapists.









If your child is making insufficient progress , the SENCO or key person may discuss with you the need to refer to other services, such as speech and language therapy. If your child begins to receive support from outside agencies,your child will have their own personalised plan aimed to assist their development.

If required, your consent would be obtained to refer to the specialist Teaching and Learning Service through the local inclusion Team Forum (LIFT) meeting which is held six times a year. If the referral is accepted, a specialist teacher would then visit your child to provide additional advice and guidance and may make further referrals to other services, such as health and would support your child's tradition to school. At all stages, you would be consulted.


Childrens progress is monitored through observation and assessment, Parents are welcome to contribute to this and are encouraged to look through their child's progress on a termly basis.We make an overall assessment of your childs development and progress three times a year using the Progress check at at aged two and the Early years foundation stage profile.

We are committed to making the nursery inclusive. We ensure we adapt activites so that they are suitable for all children.

It is important to the setting that we ensure childrens individual needs are catered for and that they are able to take part in all aspects of the nursery routine/day. We understand the importance of good quality training and knowledge of any additional needs your child might have. We ensure we liaise with any outside agencies involved with you child to gain support and guidance where necessary. 

The nursery building is accessible to all, We are situated on ground level. We have double doors that make entering the building wheelchair accessible. Our garden has a pathed area which leads up to the grass area.

The nursery room is large and spacious we have moveable furnitiue to ensure more space can be made easily for wheelchairs and frames. 

The nursery has a private carpark, staff are available to help with coming from and to the car if needed.

There is a wheelchair accesible toilet and changing facilities at the setting.

Supporting transition:

  • We will ensure all assessments and observations are up to date.
  • Schools are invited to the setting to meet your child.
  • Relevant paperwork is passed on, with your consent.
  • Photo books/ prospectus are left out for children to look at and talk about when nearing the last few weeks at the setting. 

Our SENCO attends the local SENCO forum meetings any new information she has is relayed back to all staff during staff meetings. The nursery has regular staff meetings, at least once a week.

We have a parent/carers views and comments book on the information table at all times.

After meetings with staff and parents/carers if any concerns for the child arise The SENCO will proceed to  a LIFT meeting with the consent of the parent/carer.

Private matters,  additional needs, arrangements for assessments and additional funding opportunities are discussed during your meeting at the setting. 

If needed we will offer your child additional settling in visits. 

We have a copy of our complaints policy on the information table at the setting, this is also displayed on our notice board. Copies of all our policies can be seen, please feel free to ask a staff member for them.
