Keely Dawn Finch

We are a childminding setting with 2 registered childminders and 3 childcare assistants.

Our setting offers two large indoor play rooms, our detached Play Barn and our Baby Playroom in the main house. We also have a very extensive outdoor garden and play area.

Our unique setting provides a homely nurturing environment where children can feel safe and secure. Our staff are warm, friendly and Mummies themselves!

We are in a great location within Allington, Maidstone. We are close to town, travel links and a short walking distance to many primary schools and pre schools. Yet we are tucked away in what feels like semi rural countryside.

There is off road parking facilities to make it easy and safe for you to drop off and collect your child away from busy roads.

We care for 9 children from 0-4 years each day with a ratio of 1 adult to 3 children and operate Monday - Thursday 8am - 6pm.

We follow the Early Learning Foundation Stage for the under 5's. This education framework encourages children to develop their personalities, talents and abilities.

Every child is unique, we observe each child's development and learning, assess progress and plan for their next steps.

Notes

We believe babies and young children develop best when they are in a caring relationship with an adult. A baby will learn to walk faster when they have a safe pair of arms to walk towards and learn to talk, when they have an adult listening and responding to them.

We strive to provide children with an environment that will be caring, fun and stimulating.

We provide activities that support the 7 main areas of learning:

*Personal, Social and Emotional Development

*Physical Development

*Communication and Language

*Literacy

*Mathematics

*Understanding the World

*Expressive Arts and Design

We enjoy taking our learning experiences outdoors in fresh area where children can be inspired by the natural world around them. It builds imagination and creativity, encourages independence, helps to understand risk taking, develops social skills and boosts health.

We work together at Barn Lodge Childcare to ensure equality and inclusion for all.

There are 4 broad areas of Special Educational Needs, these are:

Cognition and Learning. ...

Communication and Interaction. ...

Social, Emotional and Mental Health. ...

Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties.

We will work with our parents and carers to identify the right approach for your child and to access the additional support they may need.

Special Needs Support

We are a small nurturing setting that gets to know our children really well. All children have key person within the setting, this helps build bonds and a trusting relationship. From here we are able to observe children through play and interaction with both their peers and adults. We also use the progress check at 2 years to help identify any gaps in learning.

If we feel a child is struggling in certain areas of their learning or development we liaise with parents and also encourage our parents to discuss any concerns they may have at home.

We will arrange a convenient time to meet parents to discuss the nature of concerns and gather information from both the parents and the childs key person. This will build a picture of what their child can do and what they are finding difficult. From here we can then put in place a plan of action and make adjustments to help support the child, which is reviewed usually every 6 weeks.

Every child is unique and develops at their own rate, we work with the child as an individual. Activities are planned that encourage progress at a pace that is right for them.

We put targets in place following the SMART criteria....

S - Small

M - Measurable

A - Accessible

R - Realistic

T - Timebound

Our SEND trained staff can help provide a personal plan based on your childs specific needs.

Parents are continuously involved and informed of their childs progress both verbally and in written assessments. We agree on a approach and review every 6 weeks.

We can make reasonable adjustments to our setting environment to ensure children with SEND are included in all activities on offer.

We can easily put more simple strategies in place that help children with daily routines such as visual aids or time lines, sensory equipment etc. These small changes can really have a calming effect and help the child feel less anxious.

Our Playbarn is accessible for a wheelchair through our large barn doors. The main house has a portable ramp but the doors are of standard size.

We will forward on all information, initial assessments, progress that has been made, plans and support that is currently in place.

We encourage settling in sessions at the new setting, possibly with current key person present. We also invite the childs new key person or teacher to visit the child at our setting to help understand how the child copes with their day.

All our childminders attend SENCO training and are kept up to date with new information.

We regularly hold team meetings to discuss any concerns anyone has with a child progress, the plans in place and any achievements made.

We are always reflecting on how we deliver our education and care and how we can continually improve our service.

We encourage open communication with our parents and invite them to review our setting and service.

Keely Dawn Finch

Parents are requested to complete a form for feedback/comments on their childs progress and our service 3 times a year.

If a parent has a query or complaint we would encourage them to speak to a member of our team to highlight any issues and help us resolve the problem.

Our complaints policy is available to view on our website.
