Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
When joining our setting, I take information about your child's needs. This allows us to support your child and identify strengths and areas we may help your child.
At age 2, we will carry a 2 year progress check and discuss if there are any areas of specific need.
I/we attend many courses so that we can better understand ways to help and identify children with additional needs.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
Through our learning journeys and observations, we can gain vast knowledge of your child. This is shared on an ongoing basis and more in-depth termly.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
We can adapt activities to meet a child's needs. We can and have had specialist teachers involved to match a child's need. Giving us help and advice where needed.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Working as a Childminder puts me in a good position to ensure that I can tailor activities to ensure that your child gets the most learning from both planned activities and from help with routines in the home, such as laying the table for snack.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
In the past, we have cared for children with varying needs. Where we have received children with a condition we are unfamiliar with, we have sourced information and guidance.
We have also previously had visits from specialist Teachers.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
Through good relationships with parents, we can share information about a child's abilities.
We use learning journey's to document child's progress, these are shared with parents termly.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
We regularly take trips out, whenever we have new children we look at our health and safety risk assessment to take account of any new conditions that may cause children to be at risk.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
We do have parking outside to help with access for drop offs. Unfortunately we do not have provision for adult size wheelchairs.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
We provide a progress report for children moving on to new settings
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
We evaluate our training, We review our Policies and Procedures and we have parent questionnaires.
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Contact Anne Homan for a visit and potential settling in sessions.
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
I have Policies set up on a Childminder/ parent online site, for easy access.
I hold references, available to view.
I also hold a file for any compliments and complaints.
