I can Establish any concerns you have as a parent regarding your child’s development (including what their interests are).

I will create a baseline assessment when starting in my setting, referring to a document called Development Matters.

I carry out a Progress Check at the age of 2 (this is a statutory assessment) any delay in development can be discussed with a plan on what next steps to take.

I have had previous experience with identifying children who may need extra support.

A daily diary via What's App including photos along with end of day chat.

Photos and observations are given termly via a learning journal.

In order to adapt the EYFS framework to the specific need of your child I observe, assess and plan for your child age 0 - 2 in the 3 prime areas. From 3 - 5 we work on 4 more learning areas.

If I have a child with additional needs I will first assess my setting.
As a childminder I can tailor activities to ensure that your child gets the most out of my setting, I do this by planning activities, providing life skills. This helps them become as independent as possible, helping build their confidence as well as self esteem.

After discussing your child’s development, we (you and I) feel that your child isn't making sufficient progress we may jointly decide to refer to other services such as Language and Speech Therapy and tailor a personalised plan for your child – I will need your consent for any referrals made.

I visit our local environment on a weekly basis; parks and nature trails etc. I revise all health and safety risk assessments taking into account the needs and possible risks for both existing and new children.

I would have difficulty accommodating a wheelchair due to the door widths and steps in and out of my house. 

I complete a transition report for all children transferring from my setting to school. This is attached in their learning journal and I encourage the parents to pass a copy on to the reception teacher.  

I assess the overall effectiveness of my SEN provision by including the parents in my evaluation. I keep informed of any LIFT meetings (Local Inclusion Forum Team) and attend if I can or get someone from 'The Education People' to attend in my place.  I review my policies and procedures accordingly and have regular parent contact.

If you decide I am the right setting for your child, we would agree a few settling in hours/days (providing I will not be over my numbers) this is to ensure your child is happy and I am the right setting for their needs.

I welcome feedback from parents at anytime and pride myself on the relationship I have with them. A yearly parent evaluation is sent out for written feedback which I act on if needed.
If there is a concern I have a complaint procedure to follow in my policies,  parents are aware of this and a copy is given on signing the contract.
