Deborah Browne

I am a qualified and experienced early years teacher with up to date and relevant training, including (but not limited to) first aid, child protection, speech and language development, makaton signing etc.

I live in a 3 bedroomed house in the peaceful village of Lydden, with my two children..

I have taken a break from teaching until my children are much older. As a childminder I can take the wealth of knowledge and experience I have gained and use it to create a really stimulating, caring environment for children in my care.  I am currently undertaking the Curiosity Approach Acredditation, involving reducing the amount of plastic toys and increasing the more natural loose parts used in my setting.

Notes

I have been child-minding since 2015, prior to that I spent several years working as a qualified teacher in a local primary school, teaching nursery, reception and year 1.
I spent 6 years working as a nanny for a family in Suffolk.
I have also worked in a range of private nurseries, as well as doing voluntary work and training work in other settings.

Comments from parents:
"Thank you for making B feel loved and nurtured in your home. He is settling in nicely. We love what you are doing."
"L really enjoys being at Debbie's. He always comes home tired!"
"Busy Bees childminding is fantastic. Both of my boys absolutely love it. They are always outdoors on adventures, doing activities, or going to different clubs to play. I love the regular picture updates of the boys throughout the day. Debbie is lovely and I highly recommend this childminders."

FUNDED HOURS AT BUSY BEES:

Each childcare setting chooses how they implement the funded hours, based on their own business model.

The local government pay a set amount for the “funded hours” that your child will be accessing. Unfortunately, this rate is much lower than the cost of the childcare provided.  I have worked through several different models, including offering restricted funded hours (ie only offering funding between 9-3, raising my usual hourly rate etc).  I have tried to find a solution that will work best for everyone involved.  I will need to review this policy regularly, to confirm that offering the funded hours is still feasible.

After much careful consideration, in order to ensure I am able to offer the 15/30 hours, I have had to take the following approach:

  • Funded hours for all children (2,3,&4 yr olds, 15 or 30 hours) will only be offered during term time. I will provide you with a calendar showing the current year’s term dates as stated by the funding and management team at KCC. (Term time will *usually* coincide with local school terms, but this may not necessarily be the case)
  • Funded hours can be taken between 8am and 5pm, Mon – Wed.
  • Additional hours can be purchased throughout the week, as long as they are booked in advance. These hours will be charged at £5 per hour for hours between 8am-5pm. Additional hours required before 8am or after 5pm will be charged at £6 per hour.
  • Food is not provided, children should bring their own lunch.
  • If a child is unable to attend a pre-booked funded session due to illness or family holiday, this session will NOT be able to be carried forward.
  • If the setting is closed when a child would normally attend their funded session, additional sessions will be made available, where possible.
  • If a child is regularly dropped off late, or collected early, we will need to review the way the hours are being used to ensure government funded hours are not being “lost”.
  • I will not usually offer “wrap around” care, ie before and after a nursery or pre-school session, however in the event that a child attends this type of session half fees will be charged for the time the child is at nursery, funded hours can then be used for additional hours when a child is actually attending.
  • Occasionally there might be an outing or activity which incurs an additional cost (for example the Tiddlers summer trip) In these instances you will have the option to either pay for the outing, or use your funded hours on a different day / session where possible.
  • To ensure the continued standard of “Outstanding” provision I am asking all parents who are accessing the “funded hours”, for 3 & 4 year olds, for a voluntary contribution towards the cost of miscellaneous items. This is a voluntary contribution, it will appear on your invoice each month, and it will be left to your discretion as to whether you choose to include this contribution.  Currently the amount is 50p per funded hour your child is booked in for.  I will continue to review the situation in the future to ensure that providing the “funded hours” is still viable. (*For 3 & 4 year old funded hours only*)

For anyone wishing to take up funded hours, I will need to see proof of child's name & date of birth (usually birth certificate or passport)

Parent's will be asked to complete a "parental declaration" which states the days and sessions for funded hours to be taken. These will be reviewed termly to ensure they are still valid.

***If a child attends another setting, and you wish to claim funded hours at both settings YOU MUST ENSURE CORRECT HOURS ARE CLAIMED at each setting. This is vital to ensure funding is not withheld by KCC, and to ensure your child's continued place at my setting. ***

Special Needs Support

As part of my role in caring for your child I will use my range of experience and skill in Early Years to ensure I am always supporting your child to thrive.  If, during the course of my time working with your child, I should find any indicators of additional needs I would then communicate with you about this to discuss a strategy moving forwards.  I use observations of children in my setting to inform any concerns I may have and to monitor children's progress during their time with me.

I ensure regular informal dialogue between myself and the parents / carers, usually via WhatsApp.

If parents require a more formal feedback this can me arranged for a mutually convenient time.

As an experienced Early Years Educator I ensure that all children are able to access the environment by giving appropriate levels of support and adaptations.  Should your child need further interventions these can be discussed and implemented where suitable.
