- Description
At Tinkerbells we offer a wide variety of stimulating activities based on your child's interests in a nurturing and loving environment. All activities are adapted so all children can be included and support their developmental needs.
We have a dedicated Special educational needs coordinator, all staff have the relevant knowledge and experience to support all children. If a child is identified as having additional needs our goal is to work in partnership with parents and families to ensure the right and relevant support is in place and consistent progress is achieved.
Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
Before your child starts at the nursery we ask you to complete a registration form, we also offer home visit and settling session, this gives us the opportunity to get to know your child, their interests and consider if they will need any extra support. With observations and progress checks we are able to understand your childs developmental needs and provide the support from an early age.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
Each child has a key person who will be involved from the start, we pride ourselves on our strong key person approach at Tinkerbells. All children have an online journal which is regularly updated with observations, pictures and videos showing learning. Parents are able to contribute to this.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
At Tinkerbells each child is treated as an individual, through regular observations we assess and plan next steps for each child. We work closely with outside professionals such as speech therapists, occupational therapists. Children who have additional needs will have a targeted plan in place or a personalised plan which is completed by the key person and SenCo which will be shared with parents.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Our SenCo will work closely with the key person to ensure targets are being met, we have a well-planed environment to ensure it is accessible to all children. If we need specialist resources for a child these are purchased to support development. Staff are trained in early years practice and many have received further training to support children with Autism, Sensory processing disorder and speech and language delays. Staff use signing and visual supports daily. The key person will share targets with you and support you to continue to support your child's development from home.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
We use the Kent graduated approach to support children with additional needs, if a child is not making progress the SenCo or key person will discuss with you the need to refer to other services. If a child begins to receive support from outside professionals a personalised plan is put in place. This will be shared with you termly and reviewed to ensure progress is being made.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
Progress is monitored through regular observations and assessments, these are all available on the child's learning journal. If parents require further information or have questions regarding their child's development we can arrange appointments to discuss this with their key person and SenCo.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
All activities are suitable or adapted to meet each child's needs, we encourage all children to take part in all activities so they all have the same opportunities.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
The setting has ramps to access the building and a ramp to access the garden area, our environment is set up in a way that there is ample space for wheelchair users or children with mobility difficulties.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
When a child leaves our setting, whether to another setting or school we complete a transition report which is shared with the new provision. We invite teachers to the setting to meet the children in a familiar environment, all relevant paperwork is passed on to the new provision.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
We assess our overall effectiveness by sending out parent questionnaires annually, we encourage parents to complete the forms and explain the importance of them to enable us to reflect on practice. We attend regular SenCo forum meetings, continuous professional development for all practitioners. We also attend SenCo meetings through our collaboration which gives us the opportunity to reflect on practice and get support from others.
Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
We encourage all parents to visit the setting, we have an open door policy which means we are happy for you to visit anytime. When you visit you will be advised of availability.
What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
We send out annual questionnaires, we also have a parent voice book where parents can contribute any feedback, positive or negative. We look through the book to enable us to reflect on practice. We have regular opportunities to speak with parents and welcome any feedback. We have a formal complaints procedure which is displayed on the parent notice board.
