We believe in offering the best possible start for all children in our care. we will work closely and support families with children with special educational needs and additional needs.
Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
When a child starts at our setting we liked to get to know them from the moment they look round, so we will have conversations with parents when showing around the setting how best support their child's needs, we will further discuss these within settling in sessions.
Within our welcome pack, we ask for parents/carers to give us as much information about their child to identify needs and support the family.
We carry out a 2-year-old check to assist the practitioners with identifying any additional needs.
The child's key person will observe the child using tapestry and this gives the practitioner the opportunity to be able to recognise any additional and special educational needs
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
Parents/ carers are involved throughout supporting their child. The special needs coordinator and the key person will keep them informed. The special needs coordinator and the child's key person will work closely together to plan small steps for the child's development and we will discuss them with you. we will access outside agencies to support if needed KCC specialist teacher services and inclusion team which we will discuss with you.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
We differentiate our planning for all individual children we will look at what we are providing and adapt our learning for all children.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Your childs key person will keep you updated on tapestry of your child's progress and we support children with special educational needs and additional needs with individual personalised plans which we will share with you and review with you termly.
We use the best guidance practice to inform our teaching and support for children individually.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
We ensure that if any training is needed for children, it is accessed when the child starts so it is current and individual to your child.
We have a medication policy so we can administer prescribed medication.
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
Your child's key person will discuss your child's progress with updates on the sessions they are in, you will be able to see on your child's tapestry.
Also, plans will be reviewed with your termly and also we have parents' evening once a year to discuss progress.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
We review our risk assessment for children with special educational needs or additional needs to ensure they can fully enjoy and join in with everything we have to offer as a setting.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
We have made the building as accessible as possible with a ramp to the back garden door, we are open plan on one floor.
Where ever possible we will make adjustments to meet the needs of the children, parents and staff.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
We will work closely with the new setting, ensuring we have passed overall information on how to support your child, with your consent. we will have a meeting with yourself and the new setting and we will have resources eg photos of the new teacher, books about school, uniforms to support your child. we will do transition forms for school.
