Special Needs Support
How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
Working with parents/carers initially to find out about the child, then observing the child to identify any extra needs of the child. I offer settling in sessions so that both myself and the child can get to know each other. Completing 2 year check.
How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
Regular communication with parents/carers via face to face chats or texts, emails etc.
How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
Every child is different and I would adapt my activities and routines depending on each individual child.
What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Benefit of a childminder is a home from home setting. I use everyday routine activities as well as planned activities.
What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
Referrals to outside agencies
How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
2 year progress check. Use of outside agencies if needed.
How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
Planning and risk assessing. Discussions with parents if extra help or resourses is needed.
How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
Step into house. Fairly narrow doorways. Downstairs toilet available.
How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
Share information to new setting/school. Talking to the child about the transition. Use stories, activities, roleplay and visit to new setting.
How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
Review policies. Regular discussions with parents. Ongoing training.
