Description

I offer an inclusive approach to childcare and the children in my home from home setting. When I have vacancies I will be happy to discuss any and all of yours and your childs needs.

Special Needs Support

When I first meet you and your child, any existing SEND will be discussed if something that you and your child already receive support for. You will fill out an 'all about me' form so that I can get to know your child better and if we have successful settling in sessions and proceed to regular childcare, I will fill out a baseline assessment in which I observe and review where your child is at in all areas of learning. This will be reviewed regularly (3 x annually) alongside a Progress check at age 2. All of the above will help us work together to see how your child is developing and whether there may be areas in which there may be a need for additional help and support.

Should we identify any needs that I feel I need further help or training, I will seek to further educate myself and gain the right support from external channels to best support your child.

We will remain in contact and consult through daily conversation, daily diary and updates alongside observation photo book and regular progress reports. Should the need for additional support be identified, working together will gain support and involvement from the correct channels whether that be GP, speech therapist or no external involvement and all support given by myself. There are many channels and bodies who can step into different roles depending on the SEND we identify.

When I conduct progress reports and observations, I gather the information I need to create an individual curriculum for each of the children in my care, inclusive of any additional needs they may have. Should we as carer and child carer, identify additional needs, my approach to the EYFS curriculum will be adapted to ensure it meets your childs needs. Depending on the level of additional support, a personal or targeted plan may be given to your child to ensure we are meeting all needs for all areas of the curriculum so that we can ensure your child is getting the most out of each day with the very best support we can give.

Alongside the normal progress reports that are undertaken three times a year to monitor and share progress, all children that attend my setting have a personalised curriculum that meets and challenges their needs and current development stages. I communicate both verbally and through a daily communication book with parents about what the children have been achieving and how we can work together to ensure they meet the next step. I follow the best practice guidance document to support teaching and this encompasses a universal, personal and targeted approach where needed to ensure all children receive the correct support. All progress reports and daily communication is handed with options for open ended conversation with parents about whats next and where they would like to see their childs development.

As a sole childminder, I am the SEN lead in my setting. If through observations and reports I determine that your child has not progressed at a sufficient level for their age and development stage I may discuss with you the need to look at external options for support, GP, health visitor, LIFT. All external support and referrals require your permission and would follow discussions between ourselves to decide what is best for your child. I am here to support, assist a personalised plan and help your child thrive.

Every day at drop off and collection, we will discuss how your child is, how their day has been and any other important information. Three times a year you will receive a progress report from myself based on the day to day observations, these follow the EYFS and I use the development matters document to assist my reports to ensure we are working towards and at the appropriate level of development. When your child reaches two there is a specific 2 year progress check, this helps determine whether any early intervention is needed through the help of myself, the parent and the health visitor. Should any other professionals be involved in your childs development, there may also be reports from them included here.

I will plan activities to ensure they are accessible for all children to be included. This will be discussed on an individual basis.

As my setting is in a residential premises, there have not been changes made to the build. However, reasonable adjustments will be made where possible. My play area, kitchen and garden are all on one level, there are stairs to access the front of my home.

With your permission I will share your childs observations and progress reports with the new setting and attend any meetings (where possible) to discuss additional needs and support to aid transition. If you would like me to visit the new setting or for your childs new child carer or key person to visit my setting whilst your child is here, we will make all possible arrangements for this to happen.

Parents/carers are given new starter questions and every 6 months i give the parents a questionnaire to ensure that all ideas and input have a regular and fair opportunity. My policies and procedures are reviewed regularly and updated where needed.

You would contact myself, Bianca.

All feedback is welcome through conversation or questionnaires. I have a compliments and complaints procedure which is provided to all parents alongside all of my policies and procedures.
