Notes

We offer a warm and caring environment for children ages 2 until they start school.  Our staff are very experienced and have been involved with the Pre-school for many years.  Although their is no dedicated disabled access we are able to cater for most additional needs and would be happy to discuss this at any time.

You can visit our website for more information or view our Facebook page to see what activities the children are enjoying.

Description

Kingsdown Pre-school can offer Early years education to children with special educational needs and disabilities from the age of 2 until they start school

Special Needs Support

Children will be allocated a key person from our staff team.  Staff are trained in Early Years development and will observe and assess children through a combination of child and adult led activities.  A learning journal is completed for all children which is shared regularly with parents.  As a result of regular observation and assessment staff can identify children who have additional needs or SEND.  Staff discuss concerns with our Senco (Special educational needs coordinator) who is in role each day.

Parents are invited to regular meetings with their child's key person and any minor concerns will be raised at these meetings.  If your key person has a concern which needs addressing urgently you will be invited to a meeting which may include the setting Senco where a targeted or personalised plan can be drawn up to support your child

This will be done by your child's key person and if necessary with the support of the setting Senco.  Activities may be adapted to suit your child's needs/level of learning.  If it is felt necessary additional resources will be sought.

If your child has additional needs these can normally be met by the team of staff under the supervision of the Senco.  Staff are trained in basic Makaton and have experience in using Picture Exchange communication systems and visual timetables.  Some staff are trained in supporting children with more complex needs such as ASD (Autistic Spectrum disorder).  We will seek support from LIFT (Local Inclusion Forum teams) if this is felt necessary.

You will be invited for more regular meetings so that your child's progress can be monitored closely.  Your key person and the Senco will always be available to discuss any matter with you.

Your child will always be supported to ensure that they reach their full potential irrespective of their additional needs or SEND.  It may be necessary to request suppot from the Equality and Inclusion team or the Speech and Language team.  In certain cases it may be necessary to access SENIF funding to provide extra support or specialist equipment for your child.  If your child has severe or complex needs it may be necessary to request an EHC (Education and Healthcare) plan.

Your child will be monitored by their key person who will make regular observations on them.  You will be invited to regular meetings with your child's key person but they will always be available if you wish to discuss anything with them.  The Senco is also always available.  You will be regularly consulted and we will support and advise you on the best way to support your child at home.

As parents you will know your child best and we would ask you to share with us any concerns you have about your child at any time.  This will ensure that if any additional support is required we can give this at the earliest opportunity.

All children are included in all activities although some amendments to certain activities may have to be made depending on your child's needs.  If necessary we would seek funding to employ additional members of staff or to allow us to source more suitable resources.

At the moment our hall is accessed via a flight of steps so wheelchair access is difficult.  We are hoping to provide easier wheelchair access in the near future.  We do offer a disabled toilet.

If your child is moving to another setting their learning journey and details of their progress to date will be sent to the new setting.  If necessary we will telephone or arrange a meeting.

We meet with all local schools to discuss the level of learning your child has reached as well as any additional or special education needs and disabilities they may have.  Staff from local schools are invited to visit the children in the setting and the children have opportunities to visit their chosen school.  If your child has severe or complex additional needs or a disability our Senco will  contact your school in plenty of time to allow the school to put in place the necessary plans and procedures to fully support your child's transition.

If your child has any additional or special education needs, their key person will be in close contact with the setting Senco.  Targeted and personalised plans are regularly reviewed and you will be invited to take part in this process.  Again it is important that you as a parent keep us fully informed of any concerns you may have about your child.

Please contact us by email or telephone to arrange a meeting when you can view the setting and your child's needs can be fully discused.

Parents can talk to staff at any time although it may be easier to request a meeting.  A private room is available for your to discuss matters confidentially.  There is a suggestions box available at all times and any complaints will be fully investigated in accordance with our complaints policy which is also aways available.
