Mrs Amanda Pearl Otway-Ruthven


I  am a registered childminder with over 29 yrs experience, with upto date First aid and Child protection certificates along with other training in all areas of childcare.

I offer a warm safe friendly environment where children can learn and develop using toys, games and outings. We enjoy all sorts of crafts, activities and cooking.

 We attended groups and children's centre to socialise with other children and have fun.

We enjoy the local parks regularly and I have a large garden ready to explore and run about, as well as sand and water play.

How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND? 

Observations and using EYFS guidelines 

How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported? 

Regular discussions and photos via WhatsApp 

How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs? 

Observations, planning and assessment. 

Being a small setting i can concentrate on each child's needs and set activities to meet them.

Pin pointing any additional needs early is easier with such a small group.

What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties? 

Daily contact with parents, following the EYFS and any other programs in place.

Working in small setting may give more time to concentrate on a particular need.

Experience in child development and using guidelines to see where the child is struggling 

What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND? 

I would take on parents advice and work with any professionals the parents wish to involve.

 

How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this? 

I work alone, and would have daily contact with parents  

Also send photos of activities via WhatsApp weekly 

How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips? 

Risk assessment on all activities and outings, planning the outcomes for the individual child.

How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users? 

Setting is all ground floor based. But isn't adapted for full wheelchair use.

All activities and outings would be discussed with parents at initial meeting

How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school? 

The setting is a home first, there is ground floor assess to toilet play areas and garden.

Any additional needs would be discussed at parent visits to see whether my setting would be suitable
