Herne Bay Infant School and Seashells Nursery

Seashells Maintained Nursery is an educational setting offering flexible hours across the week to accommodate the needs of our local families. We are open from 8.30am until 3.15pm - term time only. We are situated in the Foundation Stage area of Herne Bay Infant School and Seashells Nursery. We are a purpose built setting with easy access to a large outdoor area. From the term after your child is 3 years old they are able to access the universal offer of 15 free hours of nursery education each week. We also offer 30 hours of childcare to eligible families. Additional sessions above free entitlement are available on a chargeable basis including a lunch club from 11.30 - 12.15pm.

We also offer a limited number of places for 2 year olds. This can be children who are entitled to Free for Two funding or parents who wish to pay for this provision.

The setting is run by a nursery teacher who has qualified teacher status.

Our aim is to provide a stimulating, happy, secure environment in which to play; a variety of exciting experiences to learn from with opportunities to socialise, become more independent and develop skills for life.

Notes

We have a large outdoor area where children help to look after our guinea pigs Harry, Archimedes and Ollie. We keep chickens and the children use their eggs in cooking activities each week or for their snack.

As the Nursery is part of Herne Bay Infant School there are strong transition links in preparation for children who are starting school here. All the Nursery children benefit from undertaking some activities with the Year R children such as a joint 'Ugly Bug Ball'.

We utilise the fact that we are a town centre setting by taking the children out on regular visits into the community. We have done visits to the local library, bakery, greengrocer, fire station and book shop. We also visit the local park to view the changing seasons.
