Description

We have a SENCo and may support children with Special Educational Need or Disability

Special Needs Support

Parents are asked to complete an "All about Me' form which gives us an idea of the child's strengths and areas where they may need extra support.

When the child starts, we assess their starting points. The Progress Check at 2, a statutory assessment before the child is 3 may highlight areas of need. We then involve the setting SENCo to work with the child

Information is shared with parents by the child's key person and/or SENCo through informal daily contact, through My Unique Progress reports and targeted plans and more formal meetings at the setting

Targeted plans are used to work with the children singly and in small groups in a language rich environment. Links are made with local specialist advisors where required

We plan the environment to enable children to develop to their full potential. Resources are appropriate to support individual children's development at all levels including the use of visual aids and prompt cards. The Senco works with the key person to develop targeted plans to progress the child and regular contact is maintained with parents.

We use the graduated approach to support children.

If the child is not making sufficient progress through a targeted plan, the Senco or key person will discuss the need to refer to other services . if the child begins to receive additional help, the targeted plan changes to a personalised plan. With parental consent, a referral to the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service through the Local Inclusion Forum Team (LIFT) can be made to receive guidance from a specialist teacher.

All our staff share information and training on how to support the child

The key person monitors progress and development on a continuous basis , updating plans regularly, which are done with parental input, and maintaining regular contact both informally and formally with parents.

Through staff working together we ensure activities are inclusive and can be adapted to meet individual children's needs.

The setting is in a single storey building ( a church hall). The outdoor area is accessible through separate gates to avoid steps.

We complete the My Unique Progress/Transition report which can be shared with the new setting/school. We discuss changes with children when transitions are approaching and encourage/ participate in visits to/from new settings and practice skills that may help in the new setting.

The setting takes advice from LIFT meetings, SENCo forum meetings, staff meetings and parent questionnaires

Supervisor / Deputy

We regularly send out questionnaires  to gain parental feedback. There is always a member of staff on arrival with whom parents can talk.

Parents receive a copy of the complaints policy in their welcome pack.
